Conversations with the Inspiring Noelle Wood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noelle Wood.

Noelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began as a traditional portrait photographer but I always knew it wasn’t the right fit for me. I preferred darker, moodier, more magical images. I finally decided to cross over into non-traditional fantasy-style portraits, however, there was still a piece of the puzzle missing; the WHY behind the images. Then, one day, the pieces all finally fell into place. My two greatest passions in life are art and advocating for women, why not combine the two! So, this year gave birth to Warrior Pose, portraits that honor and celebrate the warrior goddess inside each woman. I pour my heart and soul into each Warrior Pose session and feel so honored to have the chance to lift up my fellow warrior women. Each woman has a story that deserves to be told.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of my greatest struggles in life, which consequently reflected in my art, was the fear and inability to use my voice. I still struggle with being true to myself and my inner artist, regardless of how it will be received by the world. But the more I speak up and stand fully in who I am, and the more I honor myself and my boundaries, the more life and it’s amazing opportunities open up to me. We are not here to have the same voice as everyone around us, we are meant to sing our own song. Tell our own story. The world needs YOU.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Warrior Pose story. Tell us more about the business.
Warrior Pose sessions are not photo sessions, they are experiences. They not only allow a space for my clients to honor their inner goddess, but they also provide a platform for women to tell their stories. To be vulnerable. It is a very cathartic, healing, and empowering experience. On my end, I completely throw myself into each session, from the storyboarding and conceptualizing to the elaborate headpiece and costume design. The second half of the workload actually comes in after the shoot in post-processing. I spend up to two hours per image creating painterly style art. Each session is very personal and dear to my heart; because of this, I am only able to take on 1-2 clients per month. I feel very proud of the fact that I’ve carved out my own niche, not only locally but nationwide.

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
This is an amazing time to be a woman. A huge energetic shift is happening and woman are rising up, claiming what is rightfully theirs. Opportunity is here, all around us, it just takes courage and a belief in yourself to reach out and take it.
