Conversations with the Inspiring Priscila Peters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscila Peters.

Priscila, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Denver with my husband in the spring of 2012. I felt like it was a great time to start fresh in a new city. Growing up in Brazil, my family’s home was always open to friends and relatives. I always thought the home should be treated as your own sanctuary where memories are created. That’s where my love for homes came from, and having a background in customer service for many years, I decided real estate was a good fit for me. By fall 2012, I had my residential real estate broker’s license.

Then, after a few years, I knew what I needed to do to conduct my business where clients came first, and serving them with a unique and personal touch was my goal. So, I founded my own brokerage and became an independent Realtor in 2015.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been smooth. Anyone who has tried to be self-employed knows the extra struggles we face, especially in the first few years. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes just to make sure your business keeps running. Having to wear many hats all the time has been exhausting, but you get through it for yourself and your family.
I became a mom a few months before I opened my own shop. I made the decision to go on my own because of my son. I wanted to spend as much time as possible with him and I knew that decision would give me the most flexibility in time. The older I get, I realize time is precious. So, “mastering” the balance between professional and personal is a working process for me. Being a working mom takes determination, focus, a village (I’m grateful to have a supporting husband), but it pays off!

As long as you have a clear picture in your mind of what you want and a purpose behind it, it will come to be. For me, things turned crystal clear once I dug deep inside me. That has been one of the best journeys of all! The journey of self-knowledge. When you know what you stand for/who you really are, everything makes sense. Things start falling into place and the understanding of your passions and abilities is rewarding!

What should we know about Peters Colorado Realty? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Peters Colorado Realty is a boutique brokerage and we offer a distinctive experience to our clients, without the transaction fees charged by the larger real estate agencies. We pride ourselves on serving buyers and sellers in the metro Denver area.

I believe that I’m in the business of matching people with their dream homes, and it makes me feel honored to be able to touch people’s lives that way.

The first-time homebuyers have a special place in my heart because I love educating them about the market and all the details that go into the process.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
I’ve been fortunate to have had the upbringing I had. My mom was a young single mom and for this reason, my twin sister and I were raised mostly by our grandparents who had immigrated to Brazil from Japan. They were loving and certainly super old school. So, my experiences growing up were a bit different than my peers. The thing about growing up that played an outsized role in setting me up for success was my family, particularly my grandparents and mom. Since early on in life, I’ve paid attention to their determination, work ethic, perseverance and respect for others and life. After all, they turned out to be pretty successful immigrants who built their own business from scratch. I am grateful to have such excellent examples to follow.
