Conversations with the Inspiring Rosie Green Ortiz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosie Green Ortiz.

Rosie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was younger, I had always dreamed of doing so many things from dance, makeup, fashion or running my own business. I thought that there was no way I could possibly do it, so I sat back and watched other people partake in my interests. I think over time as I saw more people like me take a leap of faith and become successful, I got a push to go after what I wanted. I started my own YouTube channel showing the looks I could come up with or the outfits I liked from certain places. From there, it pushed me to expand and put what I liked doing on my Instagram and before I knew it, I went from 12 followers to nearly a thousand more. I feel as though putting myself out there has made my confidence blossom into something much bigger than what it has been. With that confidence, I eventually auditioned for Denver fashion week. Although I wasn’t chosen, I still feel amazing that I put myself out there to try at all. I still continue to continue my beauty interests along with my personal life with my followers and it’s been wonderful with their encouragement.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s never a smooth road to get to where you want to be in life. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve felt my self-esteem plummet, but I still manage to get up and go after what I want. The most satisfying thing you can ever do is to win for YOURSELF. The best advice is to ignore the negativity and believe that what you want is attainable because it 100% is. You just have to pick yourself up and keep going. Once you have what you want, it’s such an unexplained feeling of pride.

What should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My specialty would be trying and reviewing the new products that beauty companies release for us to enjoy. Some of these places such as Lancome are kind enough to let me try their new products before it’s available to buy and it’s amazing. Along with giving honest reviews, I’m known for some colorful makeup tutorials or even cute “ootd” outfit of the day photos on my Instagram account. I’m always posting fashion that I think is absolutely stunning. I’m so proud that I let myself branch into so many things rather than staying in a box. I think what sets me apart is that you don’t see many people putting themselves out there to do what they love and I do it unapologetically as a proud Afro-Latina!

For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I think as women, we are so blessed to be able to do so many things. To be mothers, to be educators, to be businesswomen, to be warriors, to be anything they wish to be. I think that even though we may struggle in certain situations, it toughens us and makes us able to do anything we want in the future. There’s no stopping a determined woman.
