Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Campbell.
Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Poppybox began as a small boutique in an itty bitty 4×2 space at a brick and mortor shop. Poppybox has grown into an online boutique since then and cameos at events around Colorado. I am the sole owner and operator, living in Erie, CO. I operate my business from my home and small warehouse alongside my two boys. As a mom, I balance my day running kids around town and procuring the cutest new clothing and accessories for women. Poppybox is a representation of my personal style and yours. With feedback from (people like you!), I seek out items that being joy and comfort, things you wake up excited to wear for the first time.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No way! However, the benefits outweigh the struggles. While I found that “getting your name out there” was the most challenging for me, I have since found confidence in connecting with others in my industry and seeking out new ventures. I’ve always been social, but I found running a business comes with an enormous social responsibility that I wasn’t prepared for. The best advice I was given when I started was, “how will (they know) you’re out there unless you tell them?” I highly recommend saying YES to every networking opportunity you can get. Happy hour? Yes. Town Fair needs volunteers? Yes. Go there, ask what people do, they will return the favor. Lastly, while you’re out there, don’t forget your business cards and flyers! Hand those bad boys out like candy.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Poppybox story. Tell us more about the business.
Poppybox specializes in procuring unique, inspiring and uplifting clothing, accessories and gifts. I am incredibly proud that my customers share my same enthusiasm for comfortable yet stylish clothing. Poppybox customers love that I’ve done the work for them, they can order what they want from us – and know it’ll be fantastic. Think: hours of dressing rooms, hangers, germs. Now think: mmmm online shopping at my fav boutique – ooo a fluffy sweater just my size!
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
As a little girl, I received one new outfit per year for school. The greatest days of my life were waking up with that feeling of pure joy, pulling a brand new blouse over my head for the first time. My outfits were “new to me” from the local thrift shop – but I surely didn’t care. Today I still shop at the thrift but I also enjoy the pleasure of something brand spanking new. My company aims to provide style, but not break the bank. Most of our pieces are less than $30. We support the want to feel good from the inside out.
Pricing:
- Most pieces are $30 and under
