Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheri Colosimo.
Sheri, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always loved physical movement. From a young age, dance & fitness felt like home. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized how much they helped me mentally & emotionally too. I pursued my degree in Exercise Science at the University of Dayton and then moved to Denver, CO with my husband. It was here that I not only fell in love with the mountains/outdoor living but with yoga. I have had truly fulfilling careers with several major wellness brands over the past 15 years that gifted me with the opportunity to do what I love: mentor individuals, create impactful programming and facilitate. A few years ago, I took the scary & necessary leap to create my own company.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Sometimes smooth, sometimes rocky, always interesting. The work that I do every day is to strengthen my belief in myself. As a leader & especially as a soloprenuer, I find it can be challenging to self-motivate every day. It is human to have self-doubt and wonder if you are on the right path when you have setbacks. When I am low on energy or have had a stressful day, I sometimes question whether it is all worth it. Yet just when I need it the most, I get reminders from clients, colleagues, friends & family that I am making an impact. Just a little nudge goes a long way.
My advice for other women, whether you are just starting this journey or are seasoned, is to find a mentor. Whether it be a coach, a colleague at work, an organization you join or a trusted friend… everyone needs someone in their corner who can listen, offer encouragement & accountability as well as expand your viewpoint and help you see past your own patterns and barriers.
What should we know about Sheri Colosimo Coaching? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I provide coaching & mentorship for individuals who are interested in personal & professional growth. My job is to listen, ask generous questions, get to the core of who a person is and then support them to take action in pursuing their best life. I am honestly humbled each time I meet with a client. They are driven, curious, real, motivated and open to sharing their stories with me. I am very proud of each of them and am committed to supporting them any way that I can. The majority of my clients are women and although they have varied backgrounds and personal/professional pursuits, what they share in common is their desire to grow in order to support the expansion of those around them.
Another part of my company is education. I host women’s retreats and travel to lead trainings across the US. For each of these events, we give 10% back to local non-profits.
Finally, I am the founder of the Strong as A Mother Summit. This speaker series is an opportunity for moms to unplug, fill-up and feel supported knowing we are all in this together. We bring together a panel of speakers to share their experiences, joys, and challenges through the different stages of the motherhood experience. Our next event is in Denver later this year.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
The easy answer is anything. From my experience of working with my clients, women embody compassion, empathy, resourcefulness and resiliency. In my opinion, these are necessary qualities for the leader that is needed today. These softer skills & heart-based leadership can transform company culture, create more meaningful connections and contribute to the major shift that needs to happen in our world.
