Conversations with the Inspiring Valeria Heine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valeria Heine.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It took me several years of loving art and photography before I decided to turn it into a business. When I first began taking photos in 2006, I expressed myself through personal photos, concentrating on quiet moments, lights, and shadows. I went to school for graphic design but never loved it as much as photography.

Once I made the decision to pursue photography as a career, I began to shoot everything except weddings, avoiding them at all costs. I admit I had the wrong preconceived idea about what being a wedding photographer would be like. The wedding industry seemed so sexist to me, especially living in South America, and I also feared working in weddings would not allow me to be creative. I quickly realized there were so many people looking for exactly what I could offer and I’ve been lucky to work with the loveliest couples. I’m able to have creative control while also authentically capturing their day in a way that shows their individuality. Once I made the choice to start shooting weddings in 2012, I haven’t looked back.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest challenges has been starting over in a new country in 2015. I started my photography business when I was living in Peru. Marketing myself and gaining a clientele once again in a new country once I moved to Denver seemed very daunting.

My advice to young women in this field is to trust yourself and never compare yourself. Setbacks and uncertainty are inevitable, so don’t let them discourage you.

What should we know about Valeria Heine Photography? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am known for my vibrant, moody, and candid wedding photography and my use of light. Clients have mentioned that they chose me as their photographer because they were able to picture themselves in my photos due to the diversity they saw in my portfolio.

Connecting with people and having them feel comfortable with me is one of the most rewarding parts of this job. I’ve been told I’m a warm and calming energy on what can sometimes be a stressful day.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Just growing up as a quiet introverted kid, I spent a lot of time observing and finding creative outlets, which I believe encouraged my artistic side.
