Conversations with the Inspiring Yulia Meoded

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yulia Meoded.

Yulia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Makeup has always been a passion of mine. It’s an amazing, inspiring and empowering tool. I loved helping women see themselves through someone else’s eyes. We tend to look in the mirror critiquing ourselves instead of admiring. And we tend to use makeup to cover up what we think of as imperfections instead of focusing on our beauty. I often heard my clients say “This is so beautiful, can you make it last forever?” Hearing this phrase over and over again inspired me to become a permanent makeup artist.

Has it been a smooth road?
The transition to becoming my own boss was rocky. I was comfortable with the job in the beauty industry I had, nervous about starting my entrepreneurial journey, and kept putting it off. Then life happened. I had a brand new baby when my husband suffered a severe injury leading to multiple surgeries, months in a wheelchair and on crutches, and him not being able to work. I guess it was a blessing in disguise because I had to quit my job to take care of my family, and this was when I opened my own studio.

A wise woman once told me, the best time to start a new business is when you have nothing to lose. She could not be any more right. So, if you’re feeling down, trapped and hopeless, start searching your heart and find what makes you happy, what gives your life meaning or simply find something you truly enjoy doing. Follow it!

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a permanent makeup artist specializing in eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips. I travel and take classes every 3-6 months to stay current and to offer the newest and best techniques from all over the world. I am proud to say that I spend most of my free time improving my skills so that my clients feel confident trusting me their beautiful faces.

What sets me apart is the communication with my clients. I want to know why they came to me, not just what they would like done. How can permanent makeup improve their life? Can I make them feel better about themselves? Can I give them 30 more minutes of sleep every morning? Can I give them fluffy brows and blushing lips they miss having? Can I give them their confidence back? Can I give them something they never had? Every client has a story, and I always hope to make a positive change with the help of permanent makeup.
For clients that have gone through some of the most difficult struggles in life and beat an illness, I offer a free service once they have been cleared by their doctor. I’m happy to put a smile on their face after a long and challenging journey

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
We learn something from every person we meet. Listening is a great skill that is often underestimated. Everyone has something to say, not everyone can hear.

I have been fortunate to find mentors while I was learning. They’re strong, successful and inspiring women who always answer their phone when I seek help.

I believe that you should spend time with people you truly admire. As your circle expands, you will find yourself surrounded by individuals who inspire you, who motivate you, who mentor you and give you the strength to power through obstacles.
