Conversations with Langston Jacobs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Langston Jacobs.

Hi Langston, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story, is quite simple.
It contains tears, and of course smiles and a dimple.

My life will definitely be a book or sticom.
I grew up in park hill, only son of single mom.

A 70’s kid, steel curtain doomsday defense orange crush,
Overcame shyness no need to blush,

Even though no father in the home
My morality refuses to roam,

Defying demographic statistics, More hardware than software Infragistics

Deans list, food stamps, lach key child,
Maturity has fashioned me bold and mild,

Breaking out the cage With poise not rage Deflecting hecklers as a comedian on stage.

Learned meekness is not weakness,

Leading with dignity at every pause, Empowering individuals and organizations “just because”

That is my why, my thumbprint. Able to communicate with the mansion or the tent.

Cutting ribbons as a business owner, Helping non-profits as a volunteer donor.

Suit and tie or backwards ball cap, Knowledge like jeopardy, flowing like tree sap.
Praying over the city and nation each time I take a lap.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Langston Hughes said it best, “life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” The term today would be “at risk.” Growing up, I was unaware that statistics were against me. However, there was a drive to be the best me possible. The me people often see is that of a pastor, educator or pubic speaker. I face the same global stressor as everyone else. Searching for “best me” has involved pitfalls, disappointment, anxiety, people pleasing and emptiness. In the empty place, I began to embrace my “why” as opposed to what I do or current position in life. Walking through grief was and is painful, but it has cleansed my lense of how I view life, myself and the world around me. Now, I don’t wait to celebrate, show love or encouragement a friend or total stranger.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have worked many high stress jobs from an employee in the Department of Corrections, construction worker, community youth centers and hours assembly line work. My purpose is to offer hope and healing to those who feel they don’t deserve their best life. Such circumstances can come from broken childhood, life failures, and toxic expectations. As a pastor and teacher, I am transparent, aspiring that my transparency gives freedom to others.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m not the best dancer, but have won a dance competition and first place in a lip sync competition as well.
