Conversations with Sisley Valdes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sisley Valdes.

Hi Sisley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I graduated as a nail technician in 2014 and for a long time after that I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I was 18 and lost. I was always worrying about what I was going to do next, in the meantime my sister would always ask me to do her nails, she would always share my work and support me without me asking. As time passed, people started reaching out to me asking to do their nails. I was happy, grateful, and extremely flattered. I immediately realized that I found joy in doing it, so much so that in 2020 after the Pandemic started, I decided to quit my 9-5 job and start my small business full time. With the support of my family, friends and clients, I am now able to run Sis Do My Nails LLC.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Perfecting my work, building up clientele has been the hardest and being scared of launching my career.

If “nothing but smooth sailing” was a possibility please get me in contact with that individual, haha. In reality, sometimes the struggles we come across are what really tend to get the best out of us when we are faced with tough situations. Perfecting my work has felt like a lifelong challenge, but I’ve learned to strive for continuous improvement instead of perfection. Starting my business off of a whim and essentially nothing brought along several anxious feelings about all possibilities and scenarios I would make up in my head about my dreams not becoming fulfilled. These thoughts and feelings I brought upon myself made me realize that you are your own worst critic, and you have to fight against your own thoughts in order to challenge yourself to become better.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in lash extensions and nail enhancements, I’m mostly known for nails because I’ve been doing it longer now, lashes I just started a year ago. I have been to school to get the most knowledge about what I do so I can provide the best care for my clients, I am friendly, caring and welcoming, I try to make my clients feel comfortable.

I originally founded my business specializing in nail enhancements but since then I have worked through and learned new skills that have allowed me to offer new services of which include lash extensions. Over the years, I have been lucky enough to come across clients that allow my creative mind to roam free pushing my creative senses to the limit and having my best works come out of that. I’d like to believe that I am a well-rounded individual with people skills that allow me to relate to my customers and grow bonds that go beyond my nail salon.

How do you think about luck?
I didn’t plan on having this until last min, things fell into place and I took my shot.

I wouldn’t necessarily call it bad luck nor good luck. I’m a firm believer that hard work and determination gets you where you want, although I’m not “immune” to bad luck, I think we all hold the power to turn a bad situation into a boost of motivation, and that is what I strive to do in any given curveball that life decides to throw at me.
