Conversations with Brandee Risch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandee Risch.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up, I spent a lot of time at my aunt’s house, who was our bakery in the family. Every Sunday, we would choose a recipe and make something delicious for everyone. Most times, we found ourselves in front of the yeast, making different types of bread, but we would also find time for those melt in your mouth sweets. From brownies to cookies and cakes, we made it all, and I always had the best time mixing up those ingredients and putting in the work to get that smell coming out of the oven, and later enjoying the results.

As I got older, I kept up that hobby and honed in on desserts. I began to try all sorts of new recipes to find flavor combinations that meshed well together to share with family and friends. It wasn’t long before they noticed that this was a little more special than a hobby, and once I was able to see it too, it went from a hobby to a passion with a mission and blossomed into what would be known as “B’s Cupcakes” in Texas.

After my then fiancé and I decided to move to Colorado, I knew I wanted to continue to grow what used to be B’s cupcakes with a fresh new name. Something that stood for me and what I do outside of baking. From 8-5, you can find me sifting through sets of drawings and visiting a jobsite to evaluate the costs of constructing a building. I’ve always had an appreciation of buildings, from the aesthetics to understanding the structural aspect of how it was built.

This is how I came up with the name of The Blueprint Baking Co. LLC. As with a building, cakes have a great deal of structural components, and I often find myself thinking about tall, “sky-scraping” cakes and how I would ensure it’s stability. Anytime I look at the spec sheets or design board for a building, I am thinking about how I could possibly turn that into a cake. These are materials that I am inspired by, which is what makes The Blueprint Baking Co. so special to me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges is balancing multiple crafts. Growth doesn’t come without growing pains and being a one person business, you often find yourself wishing there were two of you with the same level of passion.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Specializing in sweets for events of all types, I really love having the opportunity to create something different and something new. I think any creative soul would love to be the example.

what sets me apart from others is the quality of taste, quality of my work, and amount of research and skill that I am willing to put into each and every order.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always pretty shy in front of those I didn’t know, but friends would say I was funny, kind, and talent in music. I played several instruments, wrote songs, and later played several open mic nights and competitions.
