Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Lamontine
Hi Meagan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
Photography and art have been my passions since I can remember. I have always had a camera with me. I started with disposable film cameras, moved to a simple point and shoot and finally onto a DSLR. I started taking professional photos in 2010. Concert photography is what first got me into the world of professional photography. I had so many amazing opportunities to see bands and venues I wouldn’t have had a chance to otherwise. I did that for a couple years but have since transitioned my focus to portrait photography. I love the creativity and ability to express ideas through photography. The creative side of photography is what fuels my passion. I love seeing ideas come to life before my eyes and sharing the end results with the models I work with. Artistic collaboration is very important to me and my work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely been windy and rough at times but completely worth it in the end. There were times when I was trying to get to gigs in Denver with almost no gas in my car or money in the bank but went anyway. There were plenty of times where I had no idea what I really wanted to do with my photography career and times where I thought about just giving up. I have struggled with depression and anxiety which led me to believe that I had no talent. I struggled with unemployment which made me miss out on a lot of opportunities in concert photography.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have found my niche in creative portrait photography. I’m not sure what I am known for but I think what sets me apart from others is that I am willing and excited to shoot new and strange concepts with people. I feel like people come to me more often with different ideas than the day to day portrait photography. For instance cosplay or costume photography.
How do you define success?
I define success as having a life you are proud of. Of being able to do things you want to do and having something that sets your soul on fire. Also, having a support system, people that have your back no matter what. I think that building strong friendships that last is a form of success. I feel like I have succeeded every time I have a good shoot.
