Today we’d like to introduce you to Misty Auckerman
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved to Manitou Springs from Ohio in December of 99 and eventually to Denver a year later. I started doing hair for a corporate company and had the honor of training under Celebrity stylists and eventually styling runway shows and photoshoots for venues and Brides. My love for fashion and the bridal industry pushed me to go out on my own. I’ve moved throughout several salons over the past 20 years building my clients and career and connecting with some of the greatest talents in the bridal industry. I realized that hosting the bridal party from the corner of a salon, with makeup artists, photographers, food, drinks and family deserved its own special atmosphere for memories. From this I dreamed the vision for Memory Lane Salon & Bridal Boutique. The journey of finding the perfect location is a story in itself but with amazing support from friends and family we were able to build, create and open our location on July 1st of 2019. Memory Lane is located in the old historic town of Littleton Co. Our location is in a sweet Victorian home nestled in with gardens, a tree swing, and a huge front porch perfect for hosting parties and photography. Memory Lane travels all over Colorado and the US for destination weddings as well. We also network with local vendors to provide stock for our giftshop. We sell our own Memory Lane tea made custom by our local tea shop, as well as spa items, soaps, bath bombs, t-shirts, vintage treasures and so much more. We provide all salon hair services, waxing, photography, makeup and have added on princess tea parties and birthday parties for our little ones who deserve a special day as well. My daughter will be graduating with her commercial photography and business degree this summer. She and I currently run the business together and hope to add another stylist at some point. The business is growing faster than I could have ever dreamed of and were looking forward to all that is to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has defiantly not come without challenges. Going through zoning and all the cities regulations was quite the growing experience. We passed inspection the morning before opening day! I also did not go to business school. I am an artist and passionate about my industry but business does not come easy to me. I’ve had to be very diligent in learning and studying everything I can with that side of things. COVID has offered its own set of challenges as well. I’ve always vowed to enjoy the journey. Regardless of how I may struggle, I welcome a good challenge and growth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in the art of hair. I love to sculpt and create beautiful styles for brides. I look at hair color as a beautiful work of art. I free hand paint a lot, balayage, and tone with an array of colors. I’m also known for razor cutting. I used to widdle with my dad as a little girl and it reminds me of carving. I also love the hustle and bustle of a busy wedding morning with photographers and makeup and family. I have a special way of taking control and helping everything to run on time and keeping the morning flowing smoothly. I love to be creative on set and style photo shoots as well. I’ve been in the fashion industry since a very young age.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Denver has so many creatives! I’ve loved meeting and networking with the most amazing people. My daughter and I have had wonderful opportunities! Littleton has such a wonderful sense of community and support. I’m so grateful for this small tone I’ve become a part of. Besides hair I love the amazing food here! We have such incredible restaurants! I love our festivals and discovering new things.
