Daily Inspiration: Meet Renee Bartnick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Bartnick.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Breckenridge Soap Co started in my kitchen back in 2010 after I started reading labels on “all natural” products that I was putting on my baby. Many of the lotions and soaps that I was using were filled with ingredients that were hard to pronounce and were rather questionable. I decided to do some research and try my hand at making my own products and they turned out great!! I shared my creations with friends and family and from there, it blossomed into an Etsy store, then a website, then my full-time career. I have tweaked recipes over the years and am proud to offer palm-free, safe, effective products that promote happy and healthy skin.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest hurdle was redeveloping all of my soap recipes to eliminate the use of palm oil. I decided to do this after a customer pointed out the harmful deforestation practices that the palm oil industry creates. Even sustainably sourced palm oil is questionable and I do not want to support this industry in any way. I’m proud to say that all of my products are now palm-free.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I love crafting, creating and making products that are beautiful, useful and organic. When creating recipes and sourcing ingredients, I only use organic or high-quality ingredients that are safe for the planet and our families. One of my favorite creations is my organic skin salve. I originally created it for myself when my hands were so incredibly dry and itchy, thanks to our dry climate. Over time, I’ve discovered so many uses – I apply it on my son’s scrapes and ouchies, I’ve used it to help heal fresh tattoos, I’ve even used it to treat cradle cap on my infant niece. I love knowing that the products that I pour my creativity into are both safe and effective.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I freaking LOVE Colorado!!!!! I have found my forever people here and love that our state is comprised of people who hold similar values: health and wellness is important, enjoying and respecting our outdoor space is valued, and I believe that my products are a wonderful reflection of these values.
