Daily Inspiration: Meet Tye Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tye Johnson.

“Originally from Buffalo, NY Tye the Poet moved to Colorado in 2013. Always a creative, he took photography classes in high school and dabbled in drawing and sketching and eventually took up writing poetry. In 2018, he took photography back up and in 2020 he transitioned into full-time photography with a mission to make everyday women feel like every day queens who rule their own worlds. Since then, he has not looked back and has become known for his poetic approach to capturing the soul of his clients through photography”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were definitely some struggles, ha. There are so many amazing and talented photographers, a lot of photographers I look up too. I’ve worked all kinds of jobs, meeting all kinds of people so when my wife and I decided to start our own business… we were looking for photographers to help with the brand. There was a lot of photographers to choose from but they were either really expensive and talented or cheap with a motive. My wife Emma talked me into being a middle of the road… she really believed in me and a lot of my inner circle really helped and supported me. I’m still learning a lot… I’m going into my third year, meeting all kinds of models and building my professional image while learning the ins and outs of this industry. When I first started I didn’t even know how to shoot in raw images and I had bought the wrong camera that focused more on the details of the images but as I learned more about photography I made it work and eventually got the camera and that has just pushed my ability and creativity even more! I made a lot of mistakes when I first started out but people were really understanding for the most part. I couldn’t have gotten this far without family and friends… my passion of helping everyday women feel like everyday queens really helped me keep focus on WHY I wanted to do this.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer, I go by Tye the poet. Poetry has saved my life so much that I wanted to put it in my name as my perspective. In the past, I struggled with my weight, with my confidence and with my overall reason with why I was meant to be here. So taking all that, I really specialize in helping people through photography to feel good about themselves. So with Boudoir, lifestyle and portraits, I have been able to create a community with the mindset of “you can’t drink from an empty cup” filling myself and fighting for my passion and showing my family and friends that you can have whatever your dreams are if you not just believe you can but you actually work for it.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Ah, so many people. Too many to name! First off, my wife (Emma Johnson) The woman who started all this! Without her, I would have never picked up the camera. My mom (Kisha Johnson), My grandma (Andrea seaman), My art teacher (Farrah Ali), My uncle (magnify), My best friend (Danny Truitt) My good good friends (Erin Delander, Landon Oldham, Amber Anderson), Mariah @Beloved tattoos & Wellness Sarah @sassabird Fine Art To all the models that gave me a chance when I was very very brand new. Thank you. I’m blessed to be around so many people that recognize my talents and helped pushed me through tears and hard nights. Thank you.
