Hi Spirit, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Gem Scents Aromatics was a manifestation of a traumatic health care experience that changed the trajectory of my life. What initially seemed like a setback turned into a blessing in disguise. Through the art of being “still” and working through my auto-immune challenges, I began exploring my passion and “gift of smell,” and from that, my first Signature aroma was born from a combination of oils I’ve worn for years, and people knew me by my scent. Everything aroma and product I create has a story and is “Made with Powerful Intention.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Practicing remaining agile is an art that I had to incorporate into my business model, especially when building a small brand and sustainability in the e-commerce marketplace. During the pandemic, this became even more significant. It was challenging finding materials. During the early stages of the pandemic, I, like many other small businesses, experienced massive receiving delays, shipping struggles, and then some. It’s out of our hands in most instances, but creating workarounds has been a good thing. It’s become essential to develop products that complement our new normals. I used being at home to explore that concept further. Today, many of us want products that can do more than one thing: practical and uplifting items because the self-care industry is no longer a trend but a necessity by design.

As you know, we’re big fans of Gem Scents Aromatics LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Gem Scents Aromatics is a collection of natural bath & body products. We specialize in creating multi-purpose products that are great from head to toe and a collection of vegan soy candles called GSA Wicks that uplifts the soul. Scent is a powerful thing. It moves people and anchors them. So therapeutic. GSA is known for its aromas.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
It’s been an enlightening year, and I’ve grown in many ways because of it. What I learned for myself was the gift of staying in the “now” and focused on the moment. Not getting ahead of myself or consumed by reactionary circumstances. Some things you can’t change, and some things change you. I know I can always begin again, and for me, staying agile and responsive is what’s most important. I’m excited for what’s to come next and how I will continue to expand in my purpose as a conscious brand on the rise.
