Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Parlapiano.
Hi Jocelyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my architectural journey 17 years ago after earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in Visual Theory and Aesthetics from the University at Buffalo, NY. My academic path continued with a Master of Architecture and a Certificate in Design Build from the University of Colorado Denver. A defining moment in my early career was my involvement in the ColoradoBuildingWorkshop, where I joined 21 peers to design and build a home for a family on the Navajo Reservation in Southeastern Utah. That project emphasized sustainable strategies such as rammed earth construction for thermal massing and a wind catcher for passive cooling—setting the tone for my lifelong commitment to environmentally responsible design.
For over a decade, I’ve been a key leader at Rodwin Architecture and Skycastle Construction, a pioneering design-build firm in Downtown Boulder known for creating award-winning Net-Zero Energy and LEED Platinum custom homes and commercial buildings. As a Senior Associate, Project Manager, and Senior Architectural Designer, I’ve led the design and delivery of high-performance projects recognized at local, national, and international levels. My role bridges creative vision with technical execution, engaging clients, subcontractors, and consultants to bring complex sustainable projects to life.
My influence also extends into the wider green building community through long-standing involvement with the Colorado Green Building Guild (CGBG). I began as a volunteer on the events committee and later joined the Board, playing a central role in organizing the Green Home Tour. I helped secure sponsorships, curate featured projects, manage logistics, and produce the event guide. I was honored to receive the Leadership Initiative Award for advancing the craft of green building in Colorado by the Guild.
Mentorship and education are also close to my heart. Through the ACE Mentor Program of America, I lead high school students through real-world design and construction experiences, helping to inspire the next generation of leaders in architecture, engineering, and construction. I emphasize the importance of sustainability and innovation in every project and conversation.
To me, green design isn’t just a professional practice—it’s a personal imperative. I’m passionate about creating meaningful, resilient spaces that leave a positive legacy, and I lead with both purpose and enthusiasm in every facet of my work.
Outside the studio, I embrace Colorado’s natural beauty alongside my husband, two children, and our dog. Whether skiing and snowmobiling in the winter or camping, dirt biking, and enjoying time on the water in the summer, I live a life grounded in adventure, balance, and creativity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve experienced many moments of growth throughout my career, largely because architecture is an ever-evolving field—constantly shaped by new technologies, materials, and ideas. Transitioning from academia to the fast-paced world of professional practice challenged me to quickly build confidence in both decision-making and communication. I stay proactive and engaged to remain aware of emerging systems, products, and diverse perspectives that influence design. As my personal life has evolved and I’ve become a parent to two young children, I’ve also come to appreciate the importance of adaptability, humility, and ongoing personal growth.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Rodwin Architecture and Skycastle Construction, a full-service, turn-key design-build firm offering comprehensive architectural design, interiors, site design, engineering, permitting, estimating, and construction services. I especially value being part of a company that prioritizes work-life balance and fosters a positive, supportive enviornment—something that leads to both happy clients and happy team members. I’m most proud of the fully custom homes I’ve designed and bring to life with my team. I truly enjoy the process of getting to know each client and embarking on a journey together to create something both deeply personal and beautifully crafted. It’s incredibly rewarding to deliver a finished house that clients can call home for years to come.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I thought I would end up as an art teacher or art therapist.
I run 20 miles a week, every week.
I try to drink 96oz of water before noon every day.
