Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Bielinski.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been into all things creative for as long as I can remember. But interior decorating was always the thing I came back to. I was that kid who binge-watched HGTV makeover shows and made my little sister watch with me (she wanted cartoons, but hey — her house looks great now, so I guess it paid off!).
Even though I always loved design, I wasn’t exactly sure what path to take, so I ended up getting a bachelor’s degree in tourism and hospitality. That led to a 16-year career in operations, project management, and customer experience — first in the travel industry, then in big tech. Decorating, though, was always something I did on the side — for myself, for friends and family, just because I genuinely loved it.
In 2025, I finally took the leap and launched the decorating business I had been building toward — helping homeowners, renters, and DIYers create spaces they love in an attainable way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but I think that’s true for most people who decide to start something on their own. One of the biggest challenges was just making the leap. Letting go of the stability of a corporate career to pursue something completely new — and to bet on myself — was scary, but necessary.
There’s also a lot to figure out when you’re running your own business. You’re not only the CEO, but also the COO, CFO, marketing team, the accountant, the content creator, etc — all at once. But honestly, even the hard parts have been rewarding, because I’m building something that reflects my values, my passion, and the kind of impact I want to have. And every time I help someone love their space a little more, it reminds me why I chose this path.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Decorate My Space?
I run an interior decorating business called Decorate My Space. I help people transform their homes in a way that’s beautiful, functional, and truly personal — whether that’s a full-room makeover, a space refresh, or just pulling everything together so it finally feels “right.”
I specialize in creating cozy, livable spaces that reflect who my clients are and how they want to feel in their home. A lot of people I work with know they want a change but feel overwhelmed or unsure where to start. I guide them through the process, helping them make confident decisions and bringing clarity to all the moving pieces — from layout and function to finishes, decor, and mood.
One thing I really believe is that decorating should be attainable for everyone. You don’t have to spend tons of money to love your space. Sometimes simple changes like rearranging furniture, improving storage, or adding thoughtful details can make a huge difference. I also encourage thrifting, reusing what clients already have, upcycling, and DIY projects — creative, budget-friendly ways to make a space truly feel like home without breaking the bank.
I work with homeowners, but also renters — many renters don’t feel like they truly live in their space because it’s temporary or limited by restrictions. I love helping people use peel-and-stick products and other renter-friendly solutions to create a home they enjoy without risking their deposit.
What sets me apart is how deeply I focus on my clients’ unique needs and preferences, rather than following any one idea of how a room “should” look. For me, it’s just as important that a space feels right and functions well for them as that it looks beautiful. Plus, I make sure the whole process is collaborative, straightforward, and low-stress — because decorating should be fun, not frustrating!
I’m most proud of working collaboratively with my clients — really listening to their needs, goals for the space, style preferences, and budget. My mission is to help them design and love their spaces in a way that feels just right for them.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’d say I’m a thoughtful risk-taker. I don’t jump into things blindly, but I do believe that meaningful growth often comes from stepping outside your comfort zone. For me, starting my own interior decorating business and dedicating myself to it full time after a 16-year corporate career was a big risk. Now I’m working from home, no longer surrounded by coworkers, learning and navigating a completely new industry — and I’m the one doing everything. It’s definitely a big shift, and not always easy, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding.
I’ve learned that risk isn’t about being fearless — it’s about moving forward even when you’re unsure, because something in you knows it’s the right direction. Every step has brought growth, clarity, and a stronger sense of purpose. And even though I’m still figuring it all out, I know I’m building something meaningful.
