Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Goddard.
Hi Brian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been cooking professionally for almost 20 years, working in restaurants for 25 years. I attended culinary school and earned my associate degree from the Art Institute of Atlanta. During my time in Atlanta, I was extremely fortunate to work with some incredibly talented chefs and restauranteurs.
In 2019, I moved from Atlanta, Ga., to Estes Park, Colo., with my wife and two children after we purchased Cinnamon’s Bakery from Bob and Carol Fixter. Following a thorough training and transition period, we launched Cinnamons under new ownership. The business has grown exponentially since, serving more and more happy customers with each passing year, while remaining true to the original recipe and only baking with the finest ingredients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been some struggles along the way, but nothing we didn’t find a way to overcome. Shortly after we moved to Colorado, the entire world experienced a global pandemic. As new business owners, my wife and I had to find a way to adapt our business model so that we could stay open and serve guests during challenging and uncertain times.
Thankfully, our products are easily enjoyed as take-away items, so we’re very fortunate in that way.
Additionally, learning to bake cinnamon rolls was new to me. Carol Fixter, one of the original owners and head baker, spent weeks training me, but mastering the process so that the end product was consistent and familiar to regular guests took me roughly a year to perfect.
Lastly, a baker’s hours can be long and arduous, but I’m deeply grateful for this incredible opportunity and all the community support.
We’ve been impressed with Cinnamon’s Bakery, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cinnamon’s Bakery is a husband-and-wife-owned shop nestled in beautiful Estes Park, Colo. Located just outside of downtown Estes toward the Fall River entrance of RMNP, we specialize in hand-rolled, fresh-baked cinnamon rolls. Every day our menu features an old-fashioned classic cinnamon roll, pecan sticky bun, salted caramel roll, raisin roll, as well as a fruit roll—the flavor of which changes daily.
All of our products can be frosted to order with our homemade, butter cream cheese icing. We also offer a gluten-sensitive blueberry muffin, and with advance notice, we can also accommodate special orders such as gluten-sensitive and dairy-free cinnamon rolls. We offer catering services—whether it’s a hosted breakfast, wedding reception, rehearsal dinner dessert, or just a special treat for friends, family, or employees.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think the most important quality that has been essential to my success is hard work and effort.
