Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Cote.
Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a small town in Maine with a wonderful, loving family. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Maine’s flagship university. I’ve always known that I wanted to help people for my career, so psychology was a natural direction for me. When I graduated, I packed up my stuff and moved to Colorado for no particular reason but that I was drawn to it. I spent three years in Vail, enjoying everything the mountains had to offer and more. During that time, I was working towards my Master’s in Psychology. Once I finished my degree, I became licensed in Colorado to do therapy and obtained my coaching certification. A few years ago, I felt it was time to move down to Denver. Since then, I have worked in neuropsychology, which is another passion of mine, and continued to grow my own business, Trekible. Along with wanting to help people, I’ve also always wanted to be a successful entrepreneur. I secretly love coming up with inventions. The pause was one of those ‘inventions’ and my newest project. I’m a new homeowner in Denver, so I think I’ll stay here for a while, but I plan to explore the world and keep creating businesses that make others happier and healthier no matter where I am.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say in my experience, very few people, let alone entrepreneurs, experienced a smooth road. I’m very fortunate to have always had supportive friends and family to build me up when I fell down, so I don’t feel that my challenges were as difficult as they could have been. With that being said, I truly believe that any bumps I’ve encountered were just meant to send me in the direction I’m in. If I hadn’t experienced scarcity, loss, or failure, I would not be as driven as I am now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pause and Trekible?
Trekible is where I started and still do coaching and therapy. I work with individuals in life transitions to figure out the next steps, whether that is battling anxiety or depression or changing careers. I love what I do and truly care about my clients and their unique stories, and that’s what makes my practice different. With that same mindset, I created Pause. I felt that the community needed something extra to boost their mental health and relationships. We curate customizable experiences, ‘dates’ if you will, created by us and other local businesses, and deliver them right to the customers’ door. This can be for couples, friends, sisters, or any duo really!
A lot of people think this is like the date night box subscriptions, but other than the date concept, we are quite different. We let you choose your date night. That could be a combination of many different things, from a sushi-making night to an in-home fort, to game night. While date boxes send you things you may or may not like, we give you exactly what you want. We change up our offerings seasonally so there will always be new ideas for you. Additionally, some of our elements are on a rental basis, so not only are you saving money, you don’t have to keep something in your house forever just because you wanted to use it one time. I am a big surprise planner so I had run into these situations before I wanted to create this beautiful experience for my loved ones, but it became super stressful, and I couldn’t find all of the things that I wanted to make it just right. Creating unique and memorable moments together shouldn’t be stressful, which is ultimately why I started Pause. As a result of this pandemic, people are finding it harder and harder to connect. Psychologically, as human beings, we need connection to feel fulfilled and happy. My hope is that Pause will be there for people who need those extra positive moments now and in the future. I am particularly proud of our reason why and our collaboration with other companies. I have met some amazing local business owners with big ideas and even bigger hearts. I think it shows that if we all support each other, especially in hard times like these, companies and individuals alike can still thrive.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I think resilience is my biggest lesson from this crisis. We were all forced to think about things differently, which can be hard for many, but if you could shift, you could really flourish. People definitely needed mental health services during this time but didn’t necessarily know how to seek them out or ask for them. So as mental health professionals, we had to figure out the best way to be a part of the community in the way that people needed us to be now. For me, that was through creating experiences, because people aren’t able to have them like they used to, and teletherapy.
