Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Davis. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Drew was born and raised in Denver and is a proud graduate of Montbello High school. He obtained 26th full-ride athletic scholarship but ultimately chose the University of Oregon in December of 2006 to continue his education and athletic career. During high school, he had a 4.0 GPA and graduated early in order to attend the U of O in the spring of 2007. He was awarded the Franklin D. Watkins Award, which is given to the most prestigious African-American male student-athletes in the nation. Drew played wide receiver for the Ducks & helped to elevate the school as they won back-to-back Pac 10 Championships for the first time in school history his Junior and Senior seasons. He was also a primary contributor in the Ducks reaching their first National Championship game during the 2010-2011 season. He graduated with a degree in psychology and was later selected as a free agent in 2011 with the Atlanta Falcons where he played for four years.
After his time in the NFL, Drew got into coaching at the high school level before ultimately reuniting with his college receivers coach, Scott Frost, at the University of Central Florida. That year, the UCF Knights won their conference and had their first undefeated season in school history, rising as high as number 8 in the rankings. Drew knew he wanted to contribute more to the development of student-athletes off the field in their life and career endeavors & believed he would be better suited in this area due to his passion for helping others. Drew was hired by his former college coach, Chip Kelly, as the Director of Player Development at The University of California, Los Angeles, in 2018. Drew currently handles UCLA football student-athletes off the field, providing assistance in areas such as resumes, cover letters, internships, community service, health and wellness, and career aspirations. Drew has aspirations of being a Sports and Performance psychologist to help high-performing individuals reach their full potential whether in their career or life. Drew has a certificate in Advanced Leadership and is also currently pursuing a Masters in Sport Coaching at The University of Denver. Drew is a staunch advocate for mentoring kids and young adults and also the importance of reading. He is in his fourth season with the Bruins and looking forward to great things both on and off the field for student-athletes during this 2021 calendar year and upcoming season.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not smooth at all… Torn ACL first collegiate start sophomore year cut from the ATL falcons twice struggled with a career transition to finding what I was passionate about.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently working on my business plan and should be ready to roll out around December 2021 or January 2022!! Through the pandemic, I have developed the concept of being an entrepreneur and helping various people in aspects of their life both professionally and personally, with an emphasis on mental & physical wellness.
What are your plans for the future?
Finish my master’s program (sports coaching @ Denver University) in Winter of 2022. Considering acting school @ The American Academy of Dramatic Arts (Hollywood). Starting my own business as a consultant both personally and professionally for individuals, teams, universities, and organizations.
