Hidden Gems: Meet Greg Ahern of Ometrics AI, Ochatbot

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Ahern.

Hi Greg, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We started in the website conversion rate optimization space. This led to creating tools to improve website optimization. We still do conversion rate optimization testing on websites, but our main focus is on our AI tool called Ochatbot, which we launched in 2017. This has expanded into other AI features for websites and AI consulting.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ironically, some of the sales obstacles we had in 2017 are the same today. Most businesses do not understand how AI works and what some of the limitations are. As society’s love-hate relationship with AI changes, we find ourselves often in education mode. It is very similar to when I started doing internet consulting in 1994 and spent my time explaining the difference between an email address and a website address. You have to remember the world only had FAX and snail mail.

Another challenge is shifting from being in the blue ocean to being a commodity. Before the release of public generative large language models, we had very few competitors. Although these new competitors do not have the features we have, they do cause a lot of noise in the market, making it harder to find us. To get around this, we have been making technological leaps to keep ahead of the competition and stand out as different. We have also refocused some of our sales channels.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ometrics AI, Ochatbot?
The AI in our main product, Ochatbot, focuses on three tasks 1) increasing leads, sales, and revenues, 2) reducing support tickets, 3) providing AI customer insights. Some of these tasks differ depending on the type of business website. We first focused on e-commerce sites and have many features to recommend products, increase average order value, create offers to checkout, help customers with already placed orders, and much more. We also have 80 lead bots for people in the trades, like construction, to help set an appointment. Lastly, our AI can overcome sales objections to get a prospect to fill out a lead form for more complex sales or just provide support.

We stand apart from some of our competitors because we are always working on new ideas to improve a visitor’s experience on a website. This is done with good visitor engagement, but also by providing insights to the website owner on what visitors are saying and doing.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
We define success by our customers’ success. By listening to our clients, we discover their problems and come up with solutions and new technology. I know it sounds cliché, but life is a lot more relaxing if your clients are happy. This gives us energy to be creative and come up with new ideas.

I am happiest when I am creating something, whether it’s a solution for a client or making a sculpture out of stone… often I come up with the client’s solution by doing something completely different that is creative, like sculpting or painting. Of course, a long walk in the woods or mountain biking never hurts either.
