Today we’d like to introduce you to Mclean Confer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My very first job was in a metaphysical bookstore in Lakewood, where I worked from the time I was 15 until I was 24. That space was my foundation — it nurtured my love of spirituality, books, and magic. At the time, I was going to school to become a teacher, but life had other plans.
In 2013, I became a doula and built my own doula business, which I ran for nearly a decade. Supporting families through the intensity and beauty of birth shaped me deeply, and it taught me how to hold space in ways that still influence all of my work today.
When my family moved to the mountains, I shifted paths again and became a certified herbalist. That led me into plant medicine and the healing arts more fully. After returning to the Denver metro area, I began working as an herbalist at an apothecary in Morrison, where I continued to grow in my craft.
Most recently, in late 2024, I stepped into a role as a house witch and herbalist at Ritualcravt while also pouring energy into building my own business, Mystical Alchemy. It feels like all of these threads — books, teaching, birth work, herbalism, and magic — have been weaving together over the years to bring me right here, creating a life and a business rooted in intention, enchantment, and connection.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur is rarely a smooth path, especially when you choose a nontraditional career. I’ve always been a witch, and stepping into being a witch for a living has actually felt surprisingly natural — but the road to get here has been anything but straight. There were rough periods, pauses, and restarts that pulled me into deep self-exploration again and again. Each detour shaped me, though, and ultimately guided me to the place I’m standing in now.
Becoming an herbalist was also a natural extension of who I am, but it came with its own challenges. In the beginning, there are always doubts — Will this work? Am I good enough? Can I really do this? — but once I began to witness how herbal medicine could genuinely support people on their journey, the fear softened, and the path opened up.
My years as a doula brought a whole other layer of intensity and growth. Being on call with two children was demanding, but I loved it deeply and thrived in the work once I got through the slow beginning. Eventually, I became one of Denver’s top doulas and even served as President of The Colorado Doulas Association. That period was incredibly busy — balancing birth work with organizational leadership stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. Birth is unpredictable; you can’t plan how it will unfold, but you can show up with presence, compassion, and the ability to hold space for families in whatever way they need. That work taught me resilience, trust, and how to be grounded in chaos — all lessons I carry into what I do now.
As you know, we’re big fans of Mystical Alchemy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Mystical Alchemy was born from my love of weaving the mystical into the everyday. I’ve always felt that magic isn’t something far away or reserved for rituals on special occasions — it’s something you can touch in your morning cup of tea, in the way you honor the seasons, in the stories you tell yourself, and in the small sacred moments of daily life.
What I do is create spaces and offerings that help people remember that. I teach classes like Everyday Magic where we explore simple ways to bring enchantment into ordinary routines. I host a rotating book club where we dive into both fiction and spiritual nonfiction, because I believe stories — whether magical or true — change us and root us in who we are. I also craft herbal products like teas, tinctures, oils, and lotions that carry intention as much as they carry healing.
What sets Mystical Alchemy apart is the blend of practical magic and soul connection. I don’t want people to feel like they have to escape their lives to experience magic — I want them to see that they’re already living inside it. My work is about empowerment, healing, and remembering the old ways while still making them feel relevant and accessible today.
The thing I’m most proud of brand-wise is that Mystical Alchemy feels like home to people. It’s not about being perfect or following rigid rules — it’s about creating a safe, nourishing space to reconnect with yourself and the cycles of nature. It’s about wonder, intention, and transformation.
For your readers: Mystical Alchemy is here as an invitation. To pause. To remember. To bring more beauty, magic, and meaning into your life in ways that feel personal and doable. Whether through a class, a circle, a cup of tea, or an oil made with herbs and love, my hope is that people walk away feeling more connected to themselves and the world around them.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is living with intention and helping others remember their own magic. For me, it’s not about chasing perfection or following someone else’s path — it’s about being rooted in authenticity, connection, and wonder.
I care deeply about creating spaces where people feel safe to be themselves, to explore, and to reconnect with the cycles of nature and their own inner rhythms. Magic, herbalism, spirituality — these are tools, but what they’re really pointing to is a way of living where we remember that we are part of something bigger, and that even the smallest moments can be sacred.
Why does it matter? Because I’ve lived through the times when I felt lost, disconnected, or too busy to notice the beauty around me. I know how easy it is to forget that life itself is extraordinary. Helping people come back to that — to themselves, to the earth, to their own power — feels like the most important work I can do.
