Hidden Gems: Meet Rachel Taylor of Taylored Perspectives, Pllc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Taylor

Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been deeply curious about the human mind—what drives people, how they think, and the unique ways we experience life. Growing up in an affluent town with two self-employed parents, I was sheltered from much of the hardship in the world. My perspective began to shift in high school when my parents divorced. It was a defining moment that upended my sense of stability and forced me to navigate the emotional complexities of such a significant change.

During this time, I found myself in a relationship with someone who, like me, struggled with mental health. For the first time, I felt truly seen and understood. However, my freshman year of college brought an unimaginable loss: he passed away, leaving my world shattered. Grieving this loss, I struggled to cope and retreated inward. Yet, it was through this hardship that I discovered support, meaning, and ultimately, myself.

These experiences propelled me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a commitment to understanding people and the human condition. I graduated during a time of political and social upheaval, which sparked a passion for advocacy and social justice. These intersected beautifully with my interest in therapy, leading me to pursue a career in social work.

After completing my graduate degree, I worked in community mental health, supporting youth post-hospitalization and adults impacted by interpersonal violence. These roles allowed me to provide the connection, vulnerability, and support that I had once so desperately needed. It was during this time that I completed my licensure and became trained in EMDR. I also supervised interns, helping to shape the next generation of clinicians.

In 2024, amid another period of social and political challenge, I founded Taylored Perspectives, PLLC. My goal was to address the gaps in mental health services, access, and treatment that I had witnessed throughout my life and career. My journey has been shaped by personal loss, resilience, and a deep commitment to helping others navigate their own stories with compassion and hope.

Today, I’m honored to provide a space where connection and healing are possible, and where the power of vulnerability can truly change lives.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. My husband was laid off in 2023, which propelled me to open Taylored Perspectives, PLLC, sooner than I had planned. Witnessing the Medicaid unwind and anticipating potential legislative changes, I knew expanding services quickly was essential to address the gaps in mental health care before further impacts.

During this time, I held a full-time job in community mental health while building my private practice for 11 months. It was incredibly challenging to balance both roles. I often preach the importance of self-care to clients, friends, and family, but I struggled to prioritize it for myself. The most difficult part of this process was making the internal shift to prioritize my needs and fully step into my practice. It required not only a change in my schedule but also a mindset shift to trust myself and the decisions I was making.

Another major challenge was the steep learning curve of running a business. Going to school for psychology and social work doesn’t prepare you for the logistics of entrepreneurship. I had to learn a completely new language—accounting, marketing, legal contracts, and more—on top of adapting my clinical training to real-world applications. Navigating this transition was daunting, but it also taught me resilience and the value of growth through discomfort.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Taylored Perspectives, Pllc?
At Taylored Perspectives, PLLC, we take a whole-body approach to wellness, with a primary focus on individual psychotherapy services. We specialize in trauma-informed care, utilizing methods like EMDR, psychodynamic therapy, somatic approaches, and other evidence-based treatments to support healing and growth.

What sets us apart is our commitment to integrating services that promote holistic care, inspired by my experiences in community mental health and domestic violence resource centers. There, I witnessed how integrated services—such as case management, wellness coaching, and workshops—improved outcomes for clients. Adapting this model to a private practice setting allows us to provide accessible, quality care in a more personalized environment.

Our offerings include:
Monthly Workshops: For example, we provide technology safety workshops for parents of teens, nutrition to support mental wellness, and facilitate parent support groups.
Clinical Supervision: We offer individual supervision for Master’s-level clinicians and those seeking licensure, helping the next generation of mental health professionals grow.
Workplace Trainings: These focus on vicarious trauma, staff wellness, and accessing resources to promote healthier work environments.

What I’m most proud of brand-wise is our focus on accessibility and integration. Our goal is to create a space where clients can receive coordinated support that addresses not just mental health, but the broader challenges they face in life.
