Hidden Gems: Meet Sean Kelly of S+L Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Kelly.

Hi Sean, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My partner Lindsay and I have been dance partners for nearly a decade, and know how important it is to celebrate your soulmate. Combining our fun attitudes, love for music, and style, we aim to deliver the ultimate wedding experience – from Funky Formal to Chic Soiree, we are positive every couple will love their special event!

We met during our freshman year of college and made it through 7 years of long distance before making the trek out to CO. The first gift Lindsay ever got me was a record player with Mac Miller vinyl… and so the obsession began. Collecting vinyl records has been a hobby of mine ever since, and over the years I combined my appreciation for crate digging with the art of DJing and purchased a pair of turntables.

My love for vinyl DJing quickly grew and I knew this was what I wanted to do full-time. Combined with Lindsay’s years of experience in project management and design, S+L was born. Our mission is to deliver premier end-to-end events for clients, taking the stress out of event planning.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Running a business always comes with challenges, but we are leaning on our past experience to propel us forward. Our biggest challenge has been standing out from the competition. Luckily, the clients we have had the privilege of working with have left nothing but 5-star reviews, and word of mouth is beginning to spread.

We have also started prioritizing social media to grow our reach, and have been spreading the word that we are more than just a wedding DJ or planning service – we are end-to-end event managers who aim to deliver full-fledged productions.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets S+L Events apart from other similar businesses is our white-glove service, experience in professional design work and service offerings. Unlike many wedding vendors, we are not limited to a single service. We are fully involved in events from start through completion and take care of every detail in between.

Our combined experience working with international brands including HBO/MAX, Hulu, Spotify, and other premium entertainment companies, makes us confident that our brand image represents what we aim to deliver with every event. We are focused on quality over quantity and let that reflect in every aspect of our work.

At S+L Events we don’t do ‘regular’ parties. We produce bespoke experiences and deliver events beyond your expectations that resonate with guests for years to come, all without you lifting a finger. We know wedding planning can be extremely stressful. Our #1 goal is to take away the stress so you can enjoy your day.

We offer a range of services, including DJing, MCing, and Lighting for any type of event + Wedding Day Coordination, Bachelorette/Bachelor Party Planning, Wedding Graphic Design, and DJ lessons for budding DJs looking to learn and have some fun (or kids looking for a fun birthday party).

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
We use a variety of applications and tools to run our business, but the biggest resource we have is each other. We spend a lot of time talking through problems we are facing, with the business and otherwise, and find comfort in having each other to lean on. We bring this joy into our wedding + event work and feel it shows in the quality of service we deliver.

Applications we use for the business include Notion, Click Up, and Apple Reminders to keep ourselves organized. We’re also big fans of Canva for all of our creative needs. Lastly, music is our biggest inspiration. Shoutout to Spotify for fueling us always! From a walk to the gym to long rides into the mountains. And we feel so blessed to live so close to one of the coolest music venues ever, Red Rocks!
