Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Cooper Leebove.
Hi Becca, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I founded ShuBu Creative in 2018, realizing a dream I had envisioned since my early twenties. Before taking the leap into agency ownership, I made a promise to myself: to gain as much marketing/branding experience as possible and to reach the coveted position of VP of Marketing in a major organization.
After fulfilling this promise and gaining over two decades of experience leading marketing teams and overseeing large brand initiatives at companies like Vail Resorts, PorchLight Real Estate Group, Starz Entertainment, and Regis University, as well as two Denver ad agencies, I decided it was time to pursue my dream.
I launched ShuBu Creative, a strategy, branding, and marketing agency dedicated to helping purpose-driven companies and organizations. The name “ShuBu” holds a special place in my heart, derived from the affectionate nicknames of my children, “Shu Shu” and “Bu Bu.”
Naming the agency after them felt right because they were my primary motivation; the name was unique and stood out in the industry (no one would ever have this name!). I discovered that ‘ShuBu’ also holds significant meanings in other cultures: it means “my love” in Indian and “the main thing” in Japanese, which deeply resonates with the essence of branding.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey of building and growing ShuBu Creative has certainly been a blend of highs and lows. There have been exhilarating moments when we’re at the pinnacle of success, receiving multiple awards in a row, attracting many clients, and witnessing our team flourish and excel. These are the times when everything clicks when hard work and long hours translate into tangible achievements and recognition.
However, like any entrepreneurial venture, there have also been tough times. As a leader, I have had to drop everything I am doing to put out fires and pivot quickly, and those moments are challenging. They are challenging because they take priority over everything else. I will admit that I have faced periods when the influx of business slows, and challenges with projects emerge, testing my resilience and adaptability. These moments require a deep dive into problem-solving and innovation, pushing us to evolve and improve.
Despite these fluctuations, the impact the company and team have made is undeniable. I’ve had the privilege of helping countless individuals, transforming visionary ideas into life-changing brands, and turning dreams into realities. The fulfillment derived from these accomplishments cannot be overstated.
We’ve been impressed with ShuBu Creative, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The power of voice — the imperative to speak up and share insights. The journey has taught me the value of assertiveness, of not shrinking back in moments of uncertainty or doubt. By articulating my thoughts and contributions, I’ve been able to effect change and foster a culture of openness and innovation within my team and with our clients.
I have learned there is nothing to lose in sharing insights based on experience and data. I encourage others not to be afraid to speak what is on their mind because I’ve learned this is when real change and inspiration happen.
