Inspiring Conversations with Brandy Whalen of Kitcaster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Whalen.

Hi Brandy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Denver 17 years ago, and have reinvented my career path about four times. From the world of cartography to PR, searching for the perfect fit, I finally feel like I’ve landed exactly where I belong. Everyone has a reason why they sling both feet out of bed every day. Sometimes that reason is apparent, but often it’s an eternal search. I have found fulfillment in eliciting joy and spontaneity for myself and others.

I’m a mom of three boys, which is an exercise in spontaneity every day! For most of us, tapping into spontaneity is not an easy feat, especially over the last few years. I don’t know about you, but since March of 2020, each day feels a little bit like the one before. A little over two years ago, my co-founder and I decided to take the plunge into the world of podcasting and started our company, Kitcaster. Our core mission is to celebrate great conversation by booking podcast interview opportunities for our clients. Facilitating meaningful conversation checks both my joy and spontaneity boxes.

Most of our circles of influence are pretty small. We get to hear from our clients and podcast hosts every day about how impactful their beautiful conversations are on not only their professional lives but also personal. When you get to have real, authentic conversations with complete strangers from varied backgrounds, you quickly realize that our core values are often not much different from one another. Even if two people have opposing viewpoints, they always find centers of common ground. And that is why I sling both feet out of my bed every day.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Yikes. Where do I start? Life is full of obstacles and challenges, or at least it should be. Obstacles are the good stuff, guaranteed to push us outside of our comfort zone and into growth.

When my company was starting to ramp up, and family life was getting a little more challenging logistically, I was diagnosed with a rare chronic illness that made it impossible to continue running at the pace I was going. I was forced to take a hard look at how I operate and change almost everything. The body I depended on and pushed to the limit was turning on me, and I had to acknowledge my limitations. I let myself have a pity party for a hot second, then made a game plan to prioritize my health and, more importantly — my family.

At work, I offloaded some of my duties, which I should have done all along, but I have a habit of trying to handle it all. It took my health to finally do a self-evaluation and make some changes. I highly recommend that everyone do a periodic evaluation, and make the necessary changes before you are forced to do so.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My company, Kitcaster, is a group of passionate folks who are excited by good conversation, thoughtful work, and taking care of each other.
