Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Seyforth.
Hi Joey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in the southwest suburbs of Chicago in New Lenox, Illinois. After multiple sports injuries, surgery, and physical therapy. I knew I wanted to help others.
I also took a career test when I was in second grade and physical therapist was number one, showing I was on the right path. I completed my undergraduate in athletic training at Indiana State University and have thousands of hours of sideline coverage. I then received my doctorate of physical therapy from Wash U in St. Louis where I worked with baseball athletes and also coached group classes for CrossFit.
After graduating, I moved back to the Chicago area before moving to Kansas City where I started making a name for myself in the baseball community. My fiancé and I moved to Denver in June 2022 and I started my business, Comeback Performance & Wellness, in January 2023.
We help driven baseball athletes overcome injury and improve performance to play their best without limitations.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Challenges help us develop character and there have been many struggles along the way. After fainting during a clinical rotation, I was hooked up to monitors with worries about heart issues. I was found to have a bicuspid aorta which 2% of the population is born with. I was afraid to work out and started having anxiety. After having tests and being reassured that I was healthy, I was cleared to exercise and returned to working out.
I had injuries with poor physical therapy when I was younger and it is sad to see countless athletes and patients receive the same “cookie cutter” approach in traditional physical therapy and receiving low-quality care. I always felt like I was an outcast in the profession by wanting more and expecting it from myself and the clients that I work with.
After working multiple jobs and not finding that fix, I started my own company that has allowed me to treat and work with clients and give the highest quality of care possible by providing one on one care and individualizing every client’s program.
The results speak for themselves and the connections I have made with people since starting my own business are amazing. Seeing hard work pay off is the most rewarding thing I have experienced.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Comeback Performance & Wellness?
Comeback Performance & Wellness is a physical therapy practice that specializes in baseball and barbell athletes.
This type of physical therapy is not comparable to the traditional setting in the following ways: video recorded movements and exercises, one on one care, working with the same provider every session, receiving an individualized game plan tailored to the client’s needs and goals (not a print out of exercises) with exercises explaining why/when/how to complete them, objective strength testing to outline deficits and track progress, and RESULTS.
Comeback Performance & Wellness is unlike any other setting and specializes in the transition from traditional physical therapy to the playing field, by bridging the gap between rehab and performance. We do not rest and expect an injury to go away, heat or ice injuries, or waste our client’s time with pointless exercises. Our services are geared toward your specific needs and fixing the “WHY” behind the injury or pain in the first place. Simply resting an injury and going back to activity will not address the reason behind it.
Our mission at Comeback Performance & Wellness is to provide the highest quality of care possible by giving each client step-by-step instructions for a program to provide results. We see clients in fewer visits than traditional physical therapists and get amazing results by tailoring each program to the individual in front of us. “The comeback is always stronger than the setback!”
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is not a check yes or no, in my opinion, it should always be a process. Success is always something that I am striving for and every day/week/month/year changes. Success to me is the process of bettering oneself and helping others along the way.
I have been blessed to be mentored and given guidance along the way, and I am always looking to give back and help others. You are always one decision, person, or connection away from changing your life forever and I am always open to learning from others and also giving a helping hand.
