Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaay.Co
Let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The idea started my freshman year in high school to create my own clothing company, however, I didn’t fully start taking it seriously up until my freshman year in college at UNC. I had finally went public August 8th, 2018, when I made my Instagram page, found my first model, and partnered with my team to create my first set of products! Then throughout the year, I kept sharing my story and welcoming others that felt alone when dealing with there own mental health issues and my following began to increase, and it was surreal to me how many people would message me about their own personal experiences and how they had overcome them. I felt like the world could vent to me and I’d always have an answer to comfort them!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it was smooth, but I will say it’s a struggle having to always be a strong leader for others because I’m human too. I bleed, cry, and get sad just like the rest of the world but I always feel like I have to be strong for the sake of others that come to me needing a shoulder to cry on or just someone to vent to.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jaay.Co – what should we know?
My company, Jaay.Co was created to bring about mental health awareness. I specialize in clothing to spread awareness to let others know that they aren’t alone in this world.
I am proud that people can come to me about their mental health issues and not be afraid to discuss it because they can trust me because I’ve been in their shoes once before.
What sets me apart from other mental health awareness brands are that I actually talk to my audience and I share my own personal stories with them both publicly and privately. I also put the domestic violence and national suicide hotlines on my shirts to promote their awareness. Lastly, I have a deep message but I also try to tie it in with fashion so that it fits with all demographics worldwide.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would say the qualities and characteristics that I feel are most important to my success would be humbleness, trustworthiness, honestly, and courage to discuss my previous suicide attempts and how I overcame those adversities.
