Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with David Wagner of Wheat Ridge

We’re looking forward to introducing you to David Wagner. Check out our conversation below.

David , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes, I’d hire me.

I’m experienced, dependable, and know how to lead without letting my ego get in the way. I’m empathetic, I listen, and I actually enjoy helping others chase their dreams. I’ve built a business from scratch, served in the Army, and know how to lead under pressure. I show up, stay humble, and get things done.

Now send me your offer letter—I’m ready to start on Monday!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey, I’m David Wagner—Army veteran, entrepreneur, and the owner of Headband Movers, a Denver-based moving company I started during the chaos of the pandemic. What began as a necessity quickly turned into a mission: to build a moving company that’s professional, community-driven, and built on hustle and integrity.

We do everything from local moves to junk removal and professional packing —but what really sets us apart is our team. I’m also the creator behind Moving Company Hustle, a YouTube channel and online platform that helps other movers start and grow their businesses. Right now, I’m working on launching a full educational course and a mastermind for veteran-owned moving companies.

At the end of the day, I’m just someone who believes in working hard, helping others win, and building something that matters—one hustle at a time.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the most about work was my high school basketball coach, Tom Dowd. He didn’t just teach me how to run plays—he taught me discipline, accountability, and how to show up even when you’re tired, sore, or not feeling 100%. He pushed us hard, but he led by example. Coach Dowd instilled in me the mindset that nothing worth having comes easy—and that attitude has stuck with me through the Army, business, and life.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it’d be: Be patient, stack your cash, and delay gratification. Everything doesn’t have to happen all at once. Play the long game—you’ll thank yourself later.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. The public version of me is the real me—what you see is what you get. I’ve always believed in keeping it real, no matter what. Whether I’m running my business, creating content, or just having a conversation, I stay true to who I am. Authenticity goes a long way.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality were real, I think it’d be pretty cool to create the first moving company on Mars. Imagine unpacking space crates, navigating zero-gravity couches, and offering “interplanetary white-glove service.” Someone’s gotta help the Martians relocate, right? Might as well be me.
