Today we’d like to introduce you to Adaeze Noelle Azubuike.
Adaeze Noelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Three of my top loves: Jesus, music, & the mountains. I find that the two places God usually humbles me most is on the stage and in the mountains. That’s how I started: time alone with Him in worship, whether that was in the privacy of my room or in the captivation of His creation. Now, I love weekly adventuring around in the Colorado mountains, and I also enjoy getting creative in my home. I work full-time in ministry as a worship leader, while also getting to do a ton a freelance work with outdoor companies that want to come alongside my adventures. I absolutely dig working with companies that’re unafraid to diversify their representation! I fully believe in the beauty of diversity. I hope to help encourage more of that in both the Church and the outdoor industry. I want to help people come alive not only outside, but in their worship.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been an exciting road, even if not always smooth! But I was never promised a smooth road… and how boring would that be? For me, life 100% happens at the end of my comfort zone… so bumpy roads just mean more growth for me, more stretching, more risk-taking. That’s much more in line with the abundant life Jesus died to gift me. A lot of the struggles along the way for me have turned into lessons: knowing my worth, not letting setbacks keep me back, being open-handed with Kingdom things, etc. My advice for other women would be to SHOW UP, especially in places where you’re not the norm. Pave a new way, and be confident in it. Don’t disqualify yourself based off of your insecurities. We all have insecurities, but the difference that’ll set you apart is believing the things you may be insecure about are actually part of what makes you you, and you are awesome, beautiful, and enough. Be your biggest fan and actually like yourself. I’ve become someone I’m really happy with and would want to be friends with!
We’d love to hear more about your work. What sets you apart from others?
I’m a full-time worship leader, recording artist, and songwriter with Red Rocks Worship! I love my team and I love our church, Red Rocks Church. I’m an artist, and I make and sell my own DaezeDoodlez on my adventure blog, She the Adventurous. I usually post some of the freelance work I do with outdoor companies and individuals on my Instagram because that’s where I first started sharing my adventures. I also model and love inspiring especially other black women that they are beautiful even if they don’t see as many representations of themselves as they’d like to in media today. I’m most proud of being able to lead others into their own powerful encounters with the Lover of their souls, Jesus. God’s given me a gift — that’s not boastful to say — so I just wanna honor Him with every single gift I can. I’d hope that doesn’t set me apart and that we’re all doing that to the best of our ability.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I don’t personally have a mentor nor vice versa, but my advice for finding a mentor or for networking is to not be afraid to put yourself out there. We weren’t made to do life alone, and if someone isn’t interested in doing life with you or doesn’t have the capacity to, don’t take it personally and don’t internalize it. Have thick skin with that stuff, and you’ll be able to take no’s as just a closer step to your yes’s.
