Life and Work with Alyssa Buchanan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Buchanan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alyssa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story starts with me falling in love with the game of softball at the age of seven. Thousands of hours spent on practice, games, and traveling and my heart is still in love with this game. I gave four years of collegiate ability at a Division 1 school to thrive through my toughest times and that’s why my lessons are always unique. Not only do I give 60 minutes of instruction but I also throw in mentorship and life lessons for my girls of all ages. I got to where I am today by my networking abilities and being more social than I ever was in the past. I blossomed in college and became someone who was never afraid to talk or meet with anyone. I learned the eight steps of a proper handshake (thank you Coach Jake) and that has made my first impression something that people will remember. In regards to my fitness business, that has my heart because of how passionate I am about helping others. I have always been the one who will drop anything to help someone else out. In college, I changed majors three times and eventually decided on Movement and Exercise Science. I went through four years of college learning how to help others be the healthiest they can be. We are only guaranteed one life and that one life needs to be the best one. I decided to reach out and give others the opportunity to join me as a fitness/health coach but also learn how to take care of their bodies no matter their starting point. Showing my confidence, showing my passion, and having people believe in my ability; got me to where I am today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth ride whatsoever. I personally struggle with at times of not believing in myself because I can see others not believing in me. I have close family members that do not support what I have chosen to commit to and that is the hardest thing I have encountered. My advice for the young women who are trying to start their own journey is to never give up. You will have a lot of ups and downs and you will get through them with or without your support system. If you believe in yourself, you can make it happen.

Please tell us about Alyssa Buchanan Softball and Fitness.
My day job currently is an IT Consultant for a national company. After the corporate job, I come home and work my softball and fitness business. Two nights a week, I do lessons for girls who range from 9-18 years old and the other nights of the week I attempt to gain a social media following and show the world my passion. I am known for my passion for everything I put work into. I will work to outdo others and prove to others that I can do this no matter if I have your support or not. I am most proud of myself and the people who do believe in me. They will give me their undivided attention and help me with the several roadblocks that I have encountered to come up with a plan. The main thing that sets me apart from others is my past experiences. I have gone through mental struggles, the pain of disappointment, the physical pain of pushing my mind and body to the ultimate extreme, and still not giving up on something that I love.

Who have you been inspired by?
I can think of four women that have inspired my life to help create who I am today. My first inspiration would be my mother and my stepmother. Both of these women are friends to each other and help support me with no matter what I decide. They show me the different types of love that people need and the different attitudes in how to handle specific situations. They come from different backgrounds, different careers, but still care for me the same as anyone mother would. My next inspiration would be my college softball coach. We spent a lot of time together on and off the field as she was my closest mentor in college. I came to her when I was struggling with my mental health and she helped me with the next steps. She was there for every struggle, every success I had and still believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. My last inspiration would be my current mentor with my fitness business. She came into my life when I needed her the most and has helped me find the Alyssa that I love to be. The Alyssa that thrives in life more than anyone else and who can succeed with anything I do no matter what.
