Today we’d like to introduce you to Beenie Mann.
Beenie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born and raised in Germany. Met my amazing husband while he was stationed in my hometown. We met the old fashioned way… drunk in a bar… over 30 years ago.
Early in 2004, I was ready to end my life. Years of abuse and neglect by my mother had taken its toll. I was physically and mentally done and if it weren’t for my husband and my two boys (they are now 25 and 22), I would not be here today.
That day, I decided that I needed to fight and take my power back. That spring, I enrolled in classes with the University of Maryland Europe. Later that year, I underwent gastric bypass surgery (day of surgery, I tipped the scale at 369 lbs). I was desperate and knew I needed to take drastic measures.
That year, I began reclaiming me. There were many ups and downs and some major setbacks (mostly health-related).
Once the boys were old enough and we had moved to Colorado Springs (courtesy of the U.S.Army), I was working on figuring out what I wanted to do with my life and for me. There was no plan nor a general direction. Working jobs I really didn’t enjoy. Joining MLMs because I believed in the dream. Flip-flopping from here to there.
During that time, I built and ran the Fort Carson Community Theater for two years. Sadly, we had to close the doors due to various factors outside our control.
One thing I discovered during that time however, was that I am an entrepreneur through and through and I want to be of service to others.
Even in my darkest times, I found ways to help others smile, be better, be more, and see a better perspective.
On 1 April 2019, I decided to do on purpose and with purpose what I have been doing my whole life! I resigned from my position as a mortgage loan officer and started building my dream.
The middle of April, I decided to finally write the book that has been waiting to come to life and less than three months later, on 27 July 2018 (my birthday), I had my official book launch and signing. Since then, I am going full steam into the direction of my dreams to spread happiness and raise vibrations.
Other than writing, I help clients with coaching, workshops, and speaking engagements. In January, I launched my podcast ‘Beenie Bits’ and in July, I launched ‘Happiness Matters -the Show’ on YouTube.
Adding value to those who are ready to step out and up and to reach their dreams.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, they have not always been easy but always worth it!
I am so grateful for my incredible husband, my kids, and my super helper Mo – the Service Dog. Without their love and support, I wouldn’t be here today or able to do what I do.
The years of abuse and neglect growing up have left their marks and are a daily battle. Part of it is a constant battle with weight. With that, comes judgment from others. The ‘looks’ and treatment as a ‘third-class’ citizen are brutal and demoralizing.
Doctors dismissing you and chucking every issue up to weight instead of listening and helping find real solutions made me wonder if maybe I am imagining things. (In the last couple of months, I was diagnosed with Lipedema, which I refer to as ‘fat-cancer’.) Physical pain is a constant companion and can cloud the brain.
It took a long time for the business community to take me seriously. A lot had to do with the flip-flopping of jobs and businesses and my appearance (I never learned how to dress until I hired an image consultant).
My advice:
Follow your heart and your dreams.
Don’t worry about being judged. Fact is, there will always be somebody judging. Understand, it generally has nothing to do with you (unless you are a jerk – then take responsibility). It has everything to do with them and where they are coming from, their own shortcomings they are dealing with. Be compassionate toward them for you don’t know what they are going through. Be kind.
Pay attention to how you speak to yourself. Ask yourself: Would I be offended if somebody would talk to me the way I talk to myself? Be aware of your thoughts, are predominantly positive or negative? Stay on the positive side. Instead of imagining the worst-case scenario, imagine the best possible outcome.
When you are sad, angry, and frustrated, acknowledge it but don’t harp on it. Take the lesson (sometimes it is simply what not to do) and move on. Always come from a place of love and gratitude.
Thoughts become things (ask the Wright brothers – thanks to them, we are now in space!). What you think about, you bring about.
You are amazing! You are loved! You are worth it! You are deserving! Follow your dream and surround yourself with people who will help you figure out HOW to achieve them. Stay away from those who dare not to dream and are led by fear.
You are not alone. There are many who want to see you succeed and we are all cheering you on.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Matters of Perspective – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am known as the Happiness Expert and Queen of Shift. In all I do, speaking, writing, coaching, etc, I assist people in shifting their mindset. Help break through the limiting beliefs that hold them back, raise awareness of the ‘self-talk’ that’s holding them down, raise vibrations, and help define what happiness means for them. I love helping folks get their shift together and assist them on their journey to reach their goals and dreams by educating them on how to make the laws of the Universe, i.e. Law of Attraction, work for them.
My heart sings when I walk into a room and people are genuinely happy to see me and instantly smile. Countless folks have told me, just thinking of me puts a smile on their face, adds to their happy, and raises their vibration.
I am told by many, they love how I break things down into layman’s terms so they can understand it easily and more importantly, can put the info to use right away.
What sets me apart? I have Mo-the Service Dog… LOL!
Seriously, I don’t know what sets me apart other than that I am myself. I solve problems. In everything I do, I strive to serve the greater good. Make the world a better place by shifting one mindset at a time.
Who have you been inspired by?
Oprah… I remember on one of her shows she talked about doing a gratitude journal. Although, at the time, it did not resonate I remembered it. Then, in 2004, it helped start me on my journey.
Ellen DeGeneres… her message of kindness, love, and having fun resonates with me. I love how she helps so many forget about their worries for a little while.
Lisa Nichols… her story, her heart, her message. I knew I wanted to be a speaker like her from the first time I saw her on stage delivering a speech.
(My big dream is to meet these three ladies in person to thank them personally for lifting me up and mentoring me)
The list goes on about a mile long. Known and unknown women and men have and are inspiring me each and every day. They keep encouraging me, directly and indirectly, to continue on with my mission to spread happiness and raise vibrations.
Celebrities, waitresses, leaders, authors, teachers, clerks, retail assistants, peers, coaches, speakers, etc… I draw so much inspiration and strength from all of them in different ways.
