Life and Work with Bethel Jiricek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethel Jiricek.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bethel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I discovered my true desire to make my own healthy skin-care products when one of my children was struggling with eczema. He was about two years old when he had a severe eczema outbreak, and I rushed him to the doctor, worried he had an allergic reaction to something. The doctor informed us it was “only eczema” that was caused by the heat of summer. The recommendation was to leave our small child in wet pajamas for a couple of hours for the next two nights. A cortisone cream was prescribed and we were sent on our way. I never left him in wet pajamas but I did try the cream, only to find it would clear up for a time and then come back again and again.

As an esthetician, I had many clients expressing some of the same frustrations when dealing with different skin ailments. An ointment is prescribed and they are sent on their way. I was convinced there was a better way to treat skin problems, such as eczema, after researching different natural remedies and talking with a holistic doctor. I slowly removed harmful ingredients and chemicals from our everyday products such as soaps, detergents, and lotions. I began making products myself and after much dedication and trial and error, I figured out how to make different skincare products. This was not as easy as it sounds. It took an entire year in order to figure out how to make a decent lotion!

Thankfully, we no longer have to worry about eczema breakouts now that we have removed chemicals from our diet and products.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has NOT been a smooth road. Before I began making my own products I ran a small skin spa, offering facials and waxing. Once I decided we had to use better products at home, I began making the switch to use better products at the spa as well. Hence, Green Eyed Grace was formed and the skincare line began. It was much more difficult than I ever imagined and even though I was trying to work part-time and be available for my family full-time, I have never worked so hard in my life! Starting two businesses and having a family is amazing AND full of everyday management. My advice to other women would be: You Can Do It! Prayer and love will take you through any obstacle. Work hard and love what you do. Stay close to other friends and professionals that build you up and are positive in nature. Being around supportive and loving people will make such a huge difference because they can offer emotional support when challenges come up.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Green Eyed Grace & Natural Elements Skin Spa – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
At Natural Elements Skin Spa we are known for our relaxing facials that are more therapeutic in nature versus your typical treatments. We treat the whole person not just the face. We strive for luxury and relaxation with the application of natural and organic products. We want you to leave our spa feeling amazing!

We are also very proud to be a small business supporting other businesses locally and within the United States.

Who have you been inspired by?
Well, I am a little obsessed with Saint Hildegard of Bingen. She was a Benedictine Abbess, which means she was appointed, by order of Saint Benedict, as a female superior in a community of Nuns during the 1100s. She was widely respected and considered a healer by anyone who knew her. It is said that Hildegard had direct visions from God through the ‘living light’. And after much internal struggle and concern that the world would not accept her visions, Hildegard became very ill. She eventually realized it was necessary to record and share what she knew and so she wrote many amazing books.

But it would also be a shame not to mention her breathtaking composition of music. Hildegard had no formal education on how to compose music and/or poetry. Her beautiful chant-like music is how I came to learn about her and I often play her CDs at the spa because they are so calming.

In addition to counseling women and composing music and poetry, she also had a vast knowledge of herbs and spices. Hildegard felt many herbs and spices, among other things, could heal a sick person. Not only did she speak of physical ailments but of mental as well. She also felt, as many of us do, that physical and mental health go together. I could go on and on but you can see why she is such an inspiration!
