Today we’d like to introduce you to Cady Marsh.
Cady, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hi there! I am a social butterfly with an entrepreneurial spirit and was “that intern” in 2007 at a rapidly growing Bay Area start-up when Facebook first launched business pages.
I fell in love with the infinite possibilities of authentically connecting with customers through social media. After nearly 12 years working for both small and large companies of various industries, I started my own business called Cadydid Social Marketing (Cady is pronounced like Katie).
My philosophy is that social marketing should be social and authentic. I help businesses of all sizes use social media to grow by engaging with their ideal customers in a way that is creative, real, and effective.
I celebrated one year this past February and I’m loving it! I am based in the Bay Area and currently expanding into Denver and Nationwide.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a beautiful mountain full of uphills, downhills, valleys and peaks. My advice is to have a great mentor, join networking groups, surround yourself with people who have ‘done it.’ Get out there and be social and most importantly, be yourself! Know and show your worth to find your ideal clients.
Please tell us about Cadydid Social Marketing.
As I mentioned, Cadydid Social Marketing is all about authenticity and being social. For brands that want to spend money on ads, the process is very strategic for long term growth and always aligns with the overall brand. We provide a few different services such as management and coaching – all customized to each business. I specialize in learning new industries, and am now working with businesses anywhere from cybersecurity, dental offices, city business associations, insurance agents, fitness, restaurants, e-commerce businesses…etc.
I have also made it my goal to always volunteer my services to an organization I am passionate about. Right now I’m helping Trinity Center, a local homeless day program in the East Bay Area with their social media efforts. By the way, did you know you can shop on Amazon Smile (same Amazon products $ prices) and a percentage of your order goes to an organization of your choice? Love sharing that!
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I found networking and mentor opportunities right away. As soon as I started telling everyone what I was doing, people shared and connected me to others.
I went to college at Dominican University of California and currently serve on the Alumni Board. From that experience, I was connected to a handful of really great people. One lives just 5 minutes away and we have become close friends.
I also joined a BNI (Business Networking International Group – all about referral marketing. That’s really helped with not only referrals, but also just being around others going through similar experiences. I visited a few Women’s Professional Groups, but personally like the mixed groups. Other programs that helped me were the local chamber of commerce and co-working space events.
I always like connecting with other entrepreneurs and even people in social marketing. I believe in community over competition 100%.
