Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Bosshart.
Caitlin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve wanted to be a life coach since I was eighteen years old (as odd as that sounds). I realized that growing up, I was the person others often gravitated toward when needing someone to talk to, and that I loved helping others through their problems, so a people-centered career seemed like a good fit. When, at eighteen, I met a life coach who shared with me the core philosophy of coaching—“to help people figure out what they want for their lives and how to get there”—it resonated deeply.
After finishing my degree which focused on comprehensive human services, I worked as a Victim’s Advocate and helped run a transitional housing program for survivors of domestic violence for almost five years. While working as an advocate, I enrolled in a life coach training program, which I completed in 2014.
It’s been a bit of a winding journey to truly feel clear about who I felt most called to work with. With the help of my own coach, it became obvious that all along I had been drawn to working with people who, like me, are “multi-passionate,” but for a long time I wasn’t aware that there was actually a collective term to describe “us.”
Personally, I never saw my life following one pre-determined path, and I had resolutely set out to create my own. In the process, I knew that I wanted to help others who also feel called to create an unconventional life, but struggle with feeling they should instead take the “safer,” more “responsible,” “tried-and-true” path.
I don’t believe this to be true. In fact, I believe the world is missing out if multi-passionate people don’t feel free to explore and offer their many passions, unique collection of talents and knowledge to the world—so I’ve set out to support them on their journey towards creating a life that does.
After planning my wedding, I felt called to begin offering wedding coaching as well. It occurred to me this is a need couples have, but there aren’t many resources out there offering this type of support. My husband and I intentionally created a non-traditional wedding that was an authentic representation of who we are and what getting married meant to us. We felt that above all else our wedding was a celebration of our love for one another and those close to us. Throughout our own planning process, I understood how easily couples could get caught in the wedding “current,” feeling pressure to follow a traditional script that may or may not be genuine to who they are. I’m passionate about helping couples create their vision of a celebration that feels as affirming and genuine to them, as ours did to us.
In keeping with my true multi-passionate tendencies, I also teach private yoga. I started practicing yoga regularly about seven years ago to help manage chronic pain from Scoliosis and a 14-vertebrae spinal fusion (a part of my life that has played a huge role in shaping who I am, literally and figuratively). I went through a yoga teacher training to deepen my own practice and fell in love with teaching!
Has it been a smooth road?
The simplest answer is “no.” Being an entrepreneur is a vulnerable and sometimes lonely experience that requires you to be brave, over and over again. Throughout my journey as an entrepreneur, I’ve learned a lot about myself and have grown immensely. Though it’s been challenging, I wouldn’t change any of it.
At times, I stubbornly set out to figure things out on my own, which has been gratifying, but I’ve also learned the value of getting help from experts. Hiring my own coaches have been some of the best decisions I’ve ever made, to help me not only get out of my own way but also to find clarity as to what I actually wanted my business to be.
I also would not be where I am today without my accountability buddies Emma Veritas (https://www.wildauthenticity.com/) and Michelle Turner (https://thewordforward.com/) whose support and friendships have been invaluable as we simultaneously build our own businesses.
My advice is to create a business that reflects who you are, and the life you want to live. Invest in yourself, get help when you are really stuck or discouraged, get connected in your community and surround yourself with people who believe in you, especially on days when you feel like giving up!
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
As a multi-passionate person, my business very much follows my interests in a way that is unique to who I am. So it is no wonder that I offer multi-passionate coaching, wedding coaching, private yoga and more. My work is inspired by the things that feel meaningful and fulfilling, allowing me to embrace my multi-passionate nature, and to share that passion with my clients. In a nutshell, everything I do circles back to my mission: “Be unwilling to settle for less. The world craves your authenticity.”
Through my various offerings, I seek to help others bring their authenticity into the world and to never settle for less than a life that truly makes them feel full. I’m incredibly passionate and proud to do this work in the world.
As a life coach for other multi-passionate people, I work hard to “live it to give it.” I am a life coach, wedding coach, yoga teacher and I design gardens from time to time. I’m also an artist, designer, beekeeper, my husband and I are plant nuts, and we love to travel. It’s vitally important that I’m living my life in a way that is fulfilling to me, so I can help others do the same.
For my multi-passionate coaching clients, I offer a four-month program to help them to not only embrace who they are as a multi-passionate person but help them see what they have to offer the world, and how to actually take steps toward creating a life that is affirming and fulfilling to them. (Coaching is offered both in-person and by phone.)
As a wedding coach, I facilitate thoughtful conversations between couples and guide them as they create their vision of an intentional, authentic and meaningful celebration of love. Couples can meet with me as many times as they feel helpful, from just getting them started to hashing out the details of their ceremony to working with their officiant to be sure all aspects of the wedding feel genuine to them. I also support couples as they navigate tricky family dynamics if, and when, there is push-back about straying from traditions. I work with couples DIYing their weddings, as well as a complement to a wedding planner. I strongly believe that Love is Love and work with all couples! (Wedding coaching is offered both in-person and by phone.)
I also offer private, customized, alignment-based yoga, perfect for individuals, small groups, regular practice (Fort Collins only), parties or retreats. I am a Yoga Alliance Registered yoga teacher, (200 hours).
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Don’t allow your age be a limiting factor, and defy anyone who tells you otherwise. If you believe in your idea, start putting things in place to make it happen. Find mentors, coaches, and organizations that help small businesses launch. Take trainings and classes to fill in the gaps of any knowledge or know-how you feel you’re missing. In many circumstances, your business will start out as a “side hustle,” and there is nothing wrong with that! We hear glamorized stories about people who “went all in” and quit their jobs outright to start their businesses. More often than not, we aren’t hearing about all the preparation and planning that led those people to being able to actually take the “leap.”
