Today we’d like to introduce you to Crissy Chase.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My career has been quite the journey, spanning over the course of 20 years! I have my cosmetology license, barbering license and a large array of certifications in color, extensions, treatments and cutting techniques. I’ve spent time working runway shows, doing hair for print work and headshots, wedding styling and hours on end behind the chair.
The most important thing to me has always been to stay updated and relevant in this industry the best I can. I have become a more specialized stylist over the years and now focus most on color (Blondes are my jam!), extensions (I love the hand-tied weft method and tape in’s) and treatments to make the hair look it’s absolute best (keratin treatments are a game changer!).
I’m also constantly bored and searching for “more” which led me to the purchase of a vintage Airstream trailer four years ago! It took almost a full year to completely customize “Stella”, creating a beautifully appointed, three station, fully mobile salon and barbershop. The Cut On Location Barber & Beauty Salon pulls up to weddings, luxury apartment complexes, large business parks and events & festivals galore. I am still behind the chair three days a week at my beautiful shop in Highlands Ranch and spend the rest of my time working with my amazing team in the Airstream.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting to where I am today has not been smooth sailing by any means and I’m sure that I will continue to run into hurdles along the way. Mark Twains quote “twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did” is forever in the forefront of my brain! This industry is not one that you walk into with a salary or paycheck. It takes a lot of time to build a clientele, to build confidence, to educate yourself, to learn how to properly take care of your body (so you can pull off 11 hour days!). When you look at your books and see your days filling up, the new client referrals coming in, the social media post’s of your clients that just love there hair and you did it!…all the time, education, passion, effort, is all worth it.
Please tell us about The Cut On Location Barber & Beauty Salon.
My specialties are color, extensions, treatments and special event hair. Blondes have been my favorite since I started doing hair. I love all of the different tones and combinations that can be created with blonde hair. As a stylist, I try and make every client not only feel beautiful when they look in the mirror but I also strive to make each client feel unique, heard and special. My clients are my family and we grow together, we cry together, we enlighten one another and it’s a gift I’m so grateful for every day!
My on location barber & beauty salon is the side of my business that really sets me apart though! Stepping inside reveals a gorgeous custom-designed interior that is a well-lit, climate-controlled, beautifully appointed space. We are a full-service shop and offer premium services for weddings and special events, luxury apartment complexes, business parks, festivals and more! The Cut’s mobile shop contains three stylist & barber chairs, three sinks, a cozy seating area and a dressing space in the back. While we’re inside our premium salon & barbershop making our guests look there head-turning best, our gorgeous glossy Airstream is parked on location looking it’s best bringing head-turning buzz, excitement and even more panache to every site we’re parked at. Getting styled in an ultra chic Airstream trailer that comes on location is irresistibly appealing and a little ‘movie-star-in the on-set beauty trailer’ kind of fun!
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
This industry is very competitive and can be incredibly catty. Watching females judge, criticize and stereotype one another is a big issue. I believe that women should support and empower one another, have values, morals and integrity. There is nothing less attractive than a person coming from ego. Stay humble.
