Life and Work with Hannah Oreskovich

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Oreskovich.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My first job in the content creation and marketing space was actually working for a New York-based talent management startup. They were managing YouTube influencers before that was even a real term. I was working for clients like Jenna Marbles, who at the time had the largest YouTube subscriber audience in the world. It was really fun! I was digital nomad-ing around with this team for business ventures, and at the same time, learning so much about the changing landscape of marketing through social media and content. The startup eventually pivoted and I left.

Shortly thereafter, I founded a Colorado-based music news blog called BolderBeat. I have always loved the music scene and I was (and still am!) passionate about helping local artists share their work. What started as a small blog eventually transformed into what it is today- a publication with a network of volunteers throughout Colorado and Los Angeles who work with local, national, and international artists. This passion project let me continue cutting my chops in content creation by working with record labels, press teams, and the artists themselves. I also threw myself into concert photography, which is still a side gig I enjoy. Though much of this work is volunteer-based, it continues to be my way of giving back to artists who give so much of themselves through their work.

Eventually, I did what a lot of us do: I took a corporate position, this time in project management. After attending a business conference as part of the role, I was introduced to the space I am most active in now: blockchain technology. Blockchains are the technology that Bitcoin is built upon. After writing a commissioned piece for VICE News on blockchain tech, I suddenly found myself creating content for blockchain brands around the world. In 2018, I left the corporate world behind and started working in the blockchain industry full-time for different startups. I now work with several companies as a Communications & Marketing Consultant, and I absolutely love it. It’s exciting to be a part of an industry that has so much potential to change the current tech landscape. A few years ago I didn’t even know what blockchains were, so I never could have predicted my life as it is now.

Around the time my freelance work kicked into high-gear, I also started my own website and brand called Blond on the Run. I record a lot of my own travel and adventure content under this moniker, but I also use it to book content creation clients. I chose the name in reference to Paul McCartney & Wings’ song “Band on the Run” and because I always like to be on the move and off to my next adventure. Overall, it’s been a fascinating ride to where I now am, but I wouldn’t change a minute of it!

Has it been a smooth road?
As I’m sure you can gather from my story, my road has been winding, rocky, and sometimes just plain unpaved!! It has personally taken me a while to find my niche in this world, so to those who feel like you’re still not doing what you love: don’t settle. Don’t settle for the 9-5 you dread going to; don’t settle for the relationships and friendships that don’t inspire you; don’t settle for comfort out of fear. Find that job you love even if it means moonlighting every night until you can jump into it full-time, surround yourself with people who are passionate about what they do so you have a positive and supportive network, and explore who and what you want to be without apologizing. Yeah- you’re going to experience a few existential crises along the way, but you’re going to come out so strong on the other side that it’s going to be worth it. I see too many people I know working in roles they hate and spending years doing it. While I’m not saying quit your job tomorrow, what I am saying is start exploring how you can get to where you want to be. Make a plan, find a mentor, network. You can get there; you can do this!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with blondontherun – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The blockchain technology landscape is still relatively small and niche in comparison to the global tech environment, but it’s growing! The fact that it is so new and so technical has really allowed me to spread my wings as a communications and marketing specialist because I’m able to take the highly technical concepts that developers are working on and break them down so that anyone can understand them. To me, that is such a fun challenge.

Beyond that, it’s all about getting the word out about the product or projects I work with! I enjoy every piece of the content marketing world: from branding to creation to distribution to conversion, and most everything in between. I especially love the event marketing aspect that has come with my role in this space- I help with the communications, press relations, and marketing behind the world’s largest Ethereum hackathon, ETHDenver, and the world’s leading blockchain education certification conference, Blockchain Training Conference. With the advent of social media, marketing has become so experiential, and I find that to be an extremely fun part of my job.

As far as what I’m most proud of: I’m most proud of figuring out what I love to do and using that passion to see my clients’ goals become successes. There’s a peace to finding yourself and it’s something I am very passionate about helping other women do, especially in the male-dominated tech sphere. We need more women in tech and especially in blockchain tech! I really enjoy learning from and with other women in this space, so if I can be of help along the way for someone else’s journey to finding what they love, that’s a great reward. If anything I’m saying speaks to you, please reach out!

Who have you been inspired by?
I’m fortunate to have a long list of inspiring women whom I look up to and who have inspired me, but I’ll focus on the two I’m most close with: my mother and my sister.

I’ve been very privileged that both of my parents have supported me in chasing my goals and my mother, Celeste, specifically has always told me, “You could do so many things!” This has pushed me to be very adventurous- in career, in travel, and in life. She raised me to be very independent and self-reliant as a woman, for which I am very grateful.

My sister too has been an incredible influence. Unlike me, she is someone who has always known what she wanted to do and now she is doing it! She is an actress in Los Angeles and along with recently being featured in a number of film festivals this summer, she even took her dream internationally and performed in a play in Germany this year. Her confidence is contagious, her will to satisfy her dream is motivating, and her social aptitude continually inspires me to be better and to do more.
