Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather MacArthur.
Heather, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My passion and curiosity for photography began during childhood as I captured friends, family, landscapes and details of life with various cameras from a Polaroid One Step to a Kodak Disc. My interest in the arts was always apparent as a child and although I took many art classes throughout my life, I never realized I could have a career as an artist until I found and completed an extensive Commercial Photography program.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Soon after graduating, I took my young career to New York City to assist many well-known and successful photographers, as well as manage a busy still life studio. The amount of knowledge I gained from working with these talented people is priceless. I am so thankful to have had those mentors in my life. It took working with many different types of photographers to understand where my talent and passion fell. You have to be able to understand what you are good at and what you might need to work harder at.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Heather MacArthur Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Working on a variety of still life sets introduced me to prop styling. Providing the right props, textures and colors for an image is so key to its success. For me, this is the most fun part of the photography process. Because of my passion for styling, I can provide a unique talent to clients by offering both styling and photography services.
I have a highly detail-oriented mind and an uncommon capability to capture the beauty in ordinary objects. This gives me an advantage for still life and food photography. My natural and relaxed approach produce clean, simple, beautiful images that I am sought out for by my clients again and again. I have the patience to re-work an image until perfection. When I am happy with the outcome, I know it’s a great shot.
I am a Denver-based food, product and still life photographer. My work can be seen in many local magazines, catalogs and websites.
Due to the love of my fur children, I also enjoy capturing the personalities and adorableness of your fur babies.
Who have you been inspired by?
In photography school, we studied the great women photographers from the past like Imogen Cunningham, Dorothea Lange and Diane Arbus. I always admired their passion, commitment and perseverance. All strong, creative and confident women, regardless of career path, are women I look to for inspiration.
