Life and Work with Jamie Lied

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Lied.

Jamie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2011, I photographed my first engagement session. I left that session with butterflies and immediately called my husband telling him how much fun I just had! I continued to offer more and more sessions, I photographed some of my first weddings and then, in 2012, we moved out to California. During our short time out in Santa Monica, I connected and got to work with some extraordinary photographers in the industry. Then, in 2013, we decided to move back to Colorado and I was overwhelmed with not knowing what I wanted to do career-wise. My husband sat me down and he asked me something, to this day, I will never forget. He asked me what I could see myself doing every day that would really get me excited, something I would love. I knew the answer.

Photography. So, that was that. I decided to go full time, nothing to fall back on. And since then, every single client who has trusted me to capture their wedding day has helped me to fall more and more in love with that choice I made, to go all in.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh, I wish owning your own business is as easy and glamorous as everyone thinks! Creating your own business into what you want it to be is tough work. I remember countless nights, I would stay up till who knows what time, creating my website or dreaming of business goals. But then, reality also sets in and in a creative industry, it’s so easy to play the comparison game. Especially with the presence of social media. My advice to those starting out their journey? Remember, you’re offering not only an incredible product or service, but you are also offering YOU. And that is something that absolutely no one else can offer. That is the uniqueness you bring to the table. So, embrace it and run with it!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jamie Beth Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in wedding photography for couples who value photography on their wedding day and crave images that are classic, clean and authentic. I hope that my photos really help to keep marriages together. I want my couples to look back on their images every anniversary and remember that day. The promises they made, the crazy dance moves from their grandma and the quiet, sweet moments of their first look. I hope my couples receive their images and the first thing they say is “this is totally us.” Yes, I love capturing the pretty details and the gorgeousness of a day. But more than that, I want to create real photos that spark something inside when looked at.

Who have you been inspired by?
I don’t think there’s enough room here to include every woman that has inspired me in my life. But I would definitely have to say first and foremost, my mom. Growing up, she stayed home to raise myself and my brothers. Now, being a mom of two little boys, I have grown more aware of sacrifices she made for us along with the crazy amount of work and love she put into making us who we are today. She embodies a woman who loves others unconditionally.

Also, I have to shout out to all the friends in my life who own their own business as well. The sweet conversations I have gotten to share with them. The stories that bring laughter that only entrepreneurs will understand, keep me going when life gets overwhelming. These are my people and without them, life just would not be as sweet.
