Life and Work with Jessica Finley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Finley.

Jessica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After my daughter was born, I left my previous career and started looking for something that felt more authentic and personal. Something that inspired me daily. I began evaluating what was important in my life and realized how vital nutrition and wellness was to my family and our quality of life. I found health coaching and holistic nutrition to be a unique approach that takes into account both the physical and emotional sides of eating and nourishing our bodies.

I learned the value of all of this pretty quickly- soon after, I graduated my holistic nutrition program, I discovered I was pregnant with twins. It turned our lives upside down, but without my nutrition education, I could have never nourished myself in the same way. I saw firsthand how health and wellness helped me through a huge time of physical and mental change.

Something about being a mom really helped me reevaluate what was important in my life. I love hearing the stories of women in both their best moments and their struggles, it makes this career so rewarding.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey varies from day to day. I have those great days where everything seems to be working and clicking and I have those days where my confidence is so low I get stuck in indecision. Honestly, I think that is entrepreneurship summed up. It’s amazing and unbelievably difficult! I think my advice to women is to not try to go it alone, don’t seclude yourself and try to ‘do it all’. Women are generally social beings… so embrace it and find your tribe.

Please tell us about Joyful Bean Nutrition.
I am a holistic nutritionist and owner of Joyful Bean Nutrition. I work with women that are experiencing hormone imbalances from having kid(s) and find themselves feeling off and not understanding the underlying cause. I absolutely love working with mamas who are struggling losing weight, sleeping or finding time for themselves, because I have been there!

I am a believer in the power of real foods and how transformative mindfulness and kindness to self can be. It’s something that you need to make time for but also needs to be practical and unique to each person and that’s how I approach it. Improving how you feel and your life is the goal. Perfection is not.

Who have you been inspired by?
My mom, who always taught me the importance of feminism and to question the ‘roles’ of women in society. She pushed me to apply to an all women’s college (Scripps College) and that experience changed my life. I am forever grateful for her.
