Life and Work with Jini Bornes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jini Bornes.

Jini, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was a counselor at San Diego State University and worked with first-generation students. I loved helping people who work hard and just need better tools and resources. When I got married, I moved out of state and started a family right away so my focus shifted and I chose to stay at home with my children. In 2017, we became homebuyers and we had more space to run a business from home so I decided it was time to partner with my husband Brandon to grow our multimedia business because I wanted to continue to be at home with my kids but I wanted to grow our wealth as well. Brandon is super talented and creative and I believe in what he is doing, so I start networking for him and double or business income the first year. Furthermore we had funds to build a social impact business called myblackcolorado which is an innovative creative black directory of business, social organizations, churches, etc. It has been a blessing to help be a part of connecting our community more and encouraging black entrepreneurs.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Balance is a struggle for me and learning how to run a professional business. I have really benefited from being a member of a professional business networking group. It has really kept me accountable for staying consistent and I’m constantly growing from other businesswomen and men.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Bornespro Media & Myblackcolorado – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Bornespro media is a family-owned business and we specialize in videography and photography. We do promotional and event videos and photos. Brandon is an amazing storyteller and knows how to bring the best out of a business owner or event to capture people’s hearts.

Myblackcolorado is a black directory that the goal is to encourage and inspire young and old to be all that they are created to be. We have black local people from all sectors of life that are great examples for people to look up too. Though the magazine people have created a partnership and become aware of black business, creatives, events, churches and organizations in our community.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Support from my family, college gave me access to learn and grow. Healthy relationships. My relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
