Life and Work with Jordana Weinberg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordana Weinberg.

Jordana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up as an athlete, sports and fitness have always been a part of my life. After college, I wanted to share my passion for sports, fitness, and healthy living. Graduating from the University of Maryland with a degree in physical education helped me to begin my journey into giving back and into the professional health and fitness world. I learned my passion for helping others directly from my parents. Professionally, they both live for giving back and supporting their community. Four and a half years ago, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. Shortly after being diagnosed, she passed away. While I had always envisioned getting into the fitness world, personal training lifestyle, etc., I had never quite yet made it a reality. Through the passing of my mom, my whole world perspective shifted. Priorities changed. I struggled in areas I had never had a problem with before. I was learning how to reset my life and start over. While most of my daily life seemed to be the same, so many things were different. Fitness, health, and mindfulness, are the three things that helped me get where I am today, and of course, my therapist. Being an athlete, hard work, dedication, and commitment to an ideal wasn’t far-fetched for me. But now, I was transferring those skills from the basketball/volleyball court to my own very real life. I am where I am today because I let fitness help me move forward. I allowed myself to change. I allowed myself to be supported by those around me until I was ready. And then, I didn’t turn back. I finished my final year of teaching PE, received my personal training certification through NASM, opened my own business, and am excited to see where this journey will take me.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My own personal journey certainly hasn’t been easy… though I hope for others it has been! Or will be! But if I can give some advice to others beginning their own journey, I would say to them: trust yourself, set goals early, and make sure they are realistic. Be honest with yourself about why you are on this journey and what are you trying to achieve. Have a routine. And stick to it. And don’t be afraid to fall, fail, or take a set back. It happens to everyone.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a NASM certified personal trainer and Yoga ed. certified youth yoga instructor. I specialize in creating workouts using bodyweight, strength training, HIIT, and Tabata for those looking to make a lifestyle change. Using my own experience with fitness to overcome my own personal challenges is something I am trying to share with my clients and my followers on social media (follow me at instagram.com/jweinberg22). I come from zero business and marketing background and experience so everything I do is self-taught, or with guidance from friends and family. At this moment in time, my proudest moment is simply making this dream into a reality. Everyone is really good at talking a big game. I was too. I had a dream but up until 8 months ago, that’s all it was a dream. That was until I made it a priority and pushed myself outside of my comfort zone to say hey, you can do this too. And so, can all of you trying to start your own business and make a name for yourself!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
The podcast ten thousand more, by Ruby Falk, the book, “Girl, wash your face,” by Rachel Hollis, and book, “Get over your damn self,” by Romi Neustadt have all been an inspiration to me to get my life going in the direction that I want it to. I don’t need to sit here and watch my life pass me by just because life is hard. Life is hard everywhere for everyone, we all just have a different idea and meaning of what hard is. The biggest resource though has been my support system, friends and family. They are my sounding board, they have helped push me back on track when I seem to fall off, and they are my moral compass who keep moving me forward. And for that, I can’t thank them enough for helping me to do my best, be my best, and achieve my best in every aspect of my life.
