Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Kiddoo.
Julie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing Baptiste Yoga in 2007 shortly after my father-in-law passed away. At the start of 2008, I did my first 40 Days to Personal Revolution program based on Baron Baptiste’s book. I was so moved by the practice and my life started to transform both physically and mentally.
I was an education major in college and have always loved teaching. Once I started yoga & things began to click, I knew I had to share this practice with others. I did a few teacher trainings with Baron Baptiste and by 2012, ended up opening up Revolution Power Yoga in Avon, Colorado. And just this week, we opened our second location in Glenwood Springs.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha! It has definitely not been smooth. I have made lots of mistakes and they have been great opportunities for growth. I always have to come back to my original purpose of why I started the business when things get challenging. I remind myself that this practice is no about me. It is about empowering others to live in their greatness.
Please tell us about Revolution Power Yoga & Revolution Power Yoga Glenwood Springs.
Our intention behind Revolution Power Yoga, a Baptiste Power Yoga Affiliate Studio, is to create a community which is accessible to Every Body by embodying and sharing the Baptiste Practice and Methodology. As an affiliate, Revolution Power Yoga shares updated methodology directly from the Baptiste Institute. Our Baptiste Affiliation connects us to a powerful group of instructors, leaders and studios steeped in the Baptiste Practice/Methodology. This support creates a global community which is immediately accessible by walking through our doors.
We have created a welcoming practice environment which is tangible as soon as you step into our space. All are welcome. From the initial greeting by our front desk staff to a studio tour and an introduction to the teacher and practice space, our guests/community members are made to feel as though they have always belonged.
Our entire staff of teachers has been certified through Revolution Power Yoga’s 200 hour certification Teacher Training, or through certification with the Baptiste Institute, or both. Our teachers are required to participate in continuing education with the institute or with Revolution Power Yoga.
All of this dedication to Baptiste Methodology through our affiliation with the Baptiste Institute helps us create and grow a community dedicated to the growth and support of others. We intend to reach as many people as possible to share our values and the Baptiste Institute’s Methodology in order to make a difference in people’s lives and commit to being up to something much bigger than ourselves. As our community here continues to grow, we intend to start new communities throughout Colorado, connecting more people to our community here as well as to the global Baptiste Community.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Yes. I recently published Bye-Polar, sharing my struggles with severe depression as a teenager and the healing I found along the way. Those struggles have given me my purpose today. Through a tremendous amount of courage and support, I found my path to wellness. Yoga, meditation, self-inquiry, community, and a willingness to come apart in order to rebuild anew have helped me grow and thrive.
