Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylen Sather.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From the moment I walked into my first yoga class, I knew my life was forever changed. I had always been active growing up- participating in sports and dance classes but when I got to college things definitely took a switch. It was just easier for me to just not be active, stay up late, and not take care of myself. I was in a deep depression and things just weren’t how they should be in my life. A local yoga studio was offering a 20 days for $20 and I had a friend who was like “hey, let’s go try yoga” and I wanted to say “thanks but no thanks, not my thing” but on top of not taking care of myself I also didn’t know how to say no so I went. Things were never the same after that. I found a new love for taking care of myself both physically and mentally and I knew that fitness would be my happy place but didn’t know all the possibilities it would open. After about a year, I decided I wanted to become a yoga teacher, went through training, and had a fire ignited in me. From there, I became a CycleBar instructor, lagree teacher, pyla teacher to now pilates apprentice and it’s just the beginning.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t even count how many times people asked “so what’s your other job”, “oh you just teach fitness”. People don’t understand that it’s not just a hobby. I have chosen this as my career- not just a job for the time being. It’s a constant job that requires growth, setbacks, learning opportunities, and more but it is so incredibly rewarding. It’s a competitive industry so you’ve got to be willing to always push yourself to better but still remember at the end of the day it’s not about you. It’s selfless- you put yourself in front of these people who are nervous, unsure, but simultaneously excited and you have the opportunity to show them all the amazing things their body and mind can achieve.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a fitness instructor; yoga and pyla (pilates + yoga) teacher, CycleStar, and pilates apprentice. I am a motivator, finder of potential, and lover of all things fitness. I think what makes what I do is that I know at the end of the day I am just a facilitator of your potential- it’s NEVER about me. It’s never about what I can do or can’t, what I know or don’t- it’s about the person who walks in that room maybe knowing their worth or maybe not and allowing them to leave the room without any doubt about it.
Who have you been inspired by?
My mom is of course my biggest inspiration. She’s always supported all my crazy dreams and goals no matter how silly they seemed at the time. She is selfless, caring and so full of joy in everything that she does and I can only hope to share that.
And Sydnie Chapman – owner of CycleBar Fort Collins and all around amazing human. She’s always been my biggest cheerleader even when I did not know I was capable or worthy she always reminded me that I am.
