Life and Work with Laura Fessenden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Fessenden.

Laura, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After spending eight years in the Rocky Mountains, my husband and I decided to relocate to the front range to give our kids more college options. I had started my skincare business a year before that and was looking forward to expanding my network.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road is always rocky! If things were easy for us, we’d never learn as we go, right? It’s most difficult for me to get out of my comfort zone and talk to people I don’t know, but I always come back to why I started this and why I love it so much. Always remember your “why”, and use it to guide you through those rough waters. The storm will pass!

Please tell us about Rodan and Fields.
Rodan and Fields is a global skincare brand that provides premium dermatological skincare products without a prescription. I have loved helping others to feel confident in their own skin. I’ve always felt I’m meant to serve others, whether in yoga and meditation, or in a customer service setting, and this has helped me to feel complete!

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
It’s important to be authentic! People don’t join you for the product, they join because they know, trust and love YOU!
