Life and Work with Lexi Mossman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Mossman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was earning my degree in Kinesiology from the University of Michigan, and part of my requirements for my Athletic Training major was to act as a student or assistant Athletic Trainer for the sports teams at UofM. This meant caring for the athlete’s bodies so they could have a successful season and a long career- I provided injury prevention practices, injury evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation. When I completed my degree and became a Board Certified Athletic Trainer, I moved to Vail, CO- I had spent my summers working there as a health care provider with different orthopedic groups, and to me Vail is the epicenter of sports medicine- the active lifestyle, the mountain vibes, and the world-renowned orthopedic surgeons. Once I moved to Vail, I came up with the concept for my company- why don’t I treat injured and active locals and vacationers in Vail the same way that I treated my athletes at Michigan. MountainFit was born. I am 3+ years into the business, and MountainFit is very successful here in Vail. I am a Board Member for the Vail Valley Young Professional Association, and I started my own networking group in the valley. I was a Finalist for Vail Valley’s Young Professional of the Year in 2016 and 2017, Finalist for Small Business of the Year 2017 and 2018, and 2018’s Member of the Year.

Has it been a smooth road?
The path for an entrepreneur is never smooth, but I have been extremely lucky to be supported by my awesome mountain community. My greatest struggle is probably not having a “team” alongside me to help me manage stressful situations. I had the privilege of attending Harpeth Hall school in Nashville, TN for middle school- high school– an all-girls prep school, and HH taught us girls that we are smart enough, capable enough, and powerful enough to achieve absolutely anything we want to. Not only can we attempt a task, but we can also conquer it and achieve the greatest results.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with MountainFit – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am in the field of sports medicine. I specialize in injury prevention. I am known for my high energy and you can definitely find me at a networking event. I am definitely most proud of how many diverse people I have helped become active in the mountains. I am also extremely proud of having been recognized by the University of Michigan for my entrepreneurship. What sets my company apart from others is that: a) we are mobile- we come to you! b) I am an Athletic Trainer which means my clients are receiving a level of care similar to a collegiate or professional athlete c) I am on-demand — we come to you when you need us. Our goal is to help you maximize your time on the mountain.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
None. I think it is a hindrance to any female entrepreneur’s success to think that their gender is a factor of their growth. If you are qualified and capable in your skill and you put the effort in, then you have the opportunity to be the absolute best.
