Today we’d like to introduce you to Margo Martin.
Margo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
So, my journey began in August of 2015, I was at the end of myself after a life long struggle of struggling with my body issues. I was depressed, overweight, and had NO energy or patience to keep up with my family. I absolutely hated the way that I felt. I mean, come on!
Having two 9ish lbs. babies within 21 months of each other do a number on your mind and body! The worst part was that I felt hopeless and thought it was always going to be this way because I had struggled with weight and poor body image my whole life! So, in August, we were on a family camping trip, and I completely lost it. All the ugliness that I felt inside all came flowing out. I knew that I need to change and was willing to do anything to feel better than I did at that moment. I knew that I needed to stop making excuses.
So, a friend shared with me how she had been seeing changes through just moving her body 30 minutes a day. I was at my wit’s end and thought… why not, right? I fully expected it not to work because nothing else had. Within the first WEEK, I felt almost 90% better from the combination of the workouts and learning how to fuel my body well!! I lost 7lbs and over 13 inches on my body! I was eating REAL food and only working out 30 minutes a day. No more “I don’t have time!” excuses!
Fast forward to six months later, my depression was gone, I had the energy for my kids, I felt comfortable in my own skin for maybe the first time in my life… and I had lost 45lbs and 45 inches on my body!! My kids had their mama in full!
I felt so changed and renewed that I decided to become a coach to help empower other women to find the same freedom and JOY that I had found! That was almost 4 years ago! Since then, I’ve been able to walk over 350 women through finding freedom in their health and fitness starting from the inside out. I’ve had a baby since then, gained 56lbs during my pregnancy while working out and fueling my body well, and lost it all after she was born. Now, here I am, pregnant with my 4th baby girl (we are claiming a Little Women tribe!), and feel fantastic! Best of all, I’m a stronger and more confident mom which was always the goal. I do this for THEM. They don’t deserve my leftovers, they deserve the best.
Has it been a smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? No, it’s not been smooth, but it’s been beautiful. I’ve found that any road with a great view at the end usually takes effort to get there! I struggle with emotional eating and turning to food for comfort. For years, that’s what I learned to do. I’d start eating well and exercising and then fall off because it wasn’t convenient or I ate my feelings so I gave up.
What I have learned is that you CHOOSE your hard. There is always going to be something in life that is HARD. Listen… I’m a mom of three girls (6 and under) and I’m pregnant with my 4th girl. That’s hard! Ha! I’m tired (can you see the bags under my eyes?), and I am BUSY. BUT… it was harder to be unhappy in my own skin. At times, it is hard to make healthy choices, but I’ll tell you what… choosing my health has never ended in regret but quitting always has. I may have saggy skin and stretch marks, but those are what make ME… ME!
If you are just starting or wanting to start your health journey, you have to ask yourself this question, “What is my WHY? WHY do I want to make this change?” Then, you hang onto that WHY with all you have in you while you are on your journey. My WHY was that I never wanted to go back to drowning in depression. I didn’t want my girls to grow up seeing their mom looking at her body in shame. I didn’t want my girls to lose moments with me because I just didn’t have energy. So, my biggest piece of advice is to just take a baby step and say YES to someone who is willing to walk alongside you, which is what I do! Come join us and see your life change!!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Margo Martin Fitness – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in helping women find the healthiest version of themselves inside and out. I believe that God created all of us perfectly and we need to begin by loving ourselves for who we are now not who you wish you could be. I have dedicated the past 4ish years of my life to helping women find an exercise program that fits in their lifestyle in less than 30 minutes a day paired with a lifestyle nutritional plan that teaches you the WHY and HOW of your nutrition. I’m a certified master coach in the nutritional program that changed my life. You CAN have your cake and lose it too! (Can I get an AMEN?)
I empower ladies to make good choices and still enjoy LIFE. I run monthly virtual fit clubs online where I teach, encourage, and empower ladies to make these healthy changes. I give them a program that is guaranteed to work and then plug them into daily accountability. My groups offer daily tips and tricks, THE BEST FIT TRIBE EVER, and a place for ladies especially moms to not feel alone on their journey towards health. I have helped women lose anywhere from 5 to over 90lbs in my years as a coach, and I LOVE seeing women grow in confidence and strength! What sets me apart from every other coach out there is that I’m committed to fighting WITH YOU, FOR YOU, and BELIEVING IN YOU until you believe in yourself. I show up with YOU. I help you learn to love the skin God gave you from Day 1 all the way until you’ve reached your goals and beyond. I’m always looking for ladies ready to make the change. The good news is that I’ve never seen it not work for someone who committed to it!
I also have the joy of leading a growing team of ladies who want to do what I do too! I teach them how to help others reach their goals while making an income doing it. I LOVE my team and we are always looking for women to join us on our mission of empowering others to be the best and healthiest version of themselves!
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I have found most women struggle with taking the time to invest in their health. I often hear women say, “I am too busy. I don’t have time. My family needs me.” My response, “Girlfriend, you are too busy NOT to take 30 minutes a day to take care of yourself. A healthy woman prioritizes self-care every day so that they can care for others well. Your kids NEED a mom who cares about herself. Your hubby needs a wife who has the energy to give to the family at the end of the day.” It’s selfish NOT to take the time to take care of your body… the one body you’ve been given to serve those around you in love and joy!
