Life and Work with Michelle Hazenbush

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Hazenbush.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey on this path started when I was dealing with some personal health issues. I was twenty years old and was told by my doctor that the only solution they could give me was to take medication for the rest of my life. I thought that was crazy considering I was so young, so I started researching ways to heal the body naturally. I was getting horrible pain from everything I ate, even on a simple diet. Once I started the path to healing naturally, the pain eventually subsided and over time, my symptom started disappearing. I do still deal with some symptoms to this day, but everything has gotten tremendously better in time. I do think that healing is an ongoing process and there is no time limit to how long it will take. My journey has taken me on a rollercoaster as I’ve always wanted to get to the root cause of my health issues and heal on that level. This has opened up my eyes to realizing that deep healing also involves healing on the emotional level as well. A year or so into my journey, I realized that I had such a passion for holistic health and wanted to dedicate my life to helping others who were dealing with similar health issues. I ended up moving to Denver after finishing my undergrad and decided to go back to school to study nutrition. Today, I have come a long way with my personal health, have finished my program in nutrition, and I have started my own business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has certainly not been a smooth road. There were many days, weeks, and months where I felt absolutely defeated. I felt like my body had failed me and I felt hopeless. I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t still have those moments from time to time. It takes a long time to peel an onion layer by layer, and it won’t always be easy. With each layer comes new challenges and new realizations of things that you need to focus on healing. My advice for other women would be to never give up. Your body can and will heal, you just can’t ever give up. The journey may seem slow, but it’s all part of your greater growth as a human being. There will be times where everything just seems so frustrating, but there are so many lessons to cherish along the way. Like the tide, what overflows will once again pull back, and what pulls back will again overflow. If you learn to ride the waves you will learn to live with less resistance.

Please tell us about Nutritional Nourishment.
My work involves seeing clients and offering them my nutritional services. I also host sound bowl meditations in the Denver area as well. My work in nutrition focuses on two main areas, the first being chronic health issues, mostly digestive problems and helping people fix their gut health. The second is prenatal nutrition. The first is because I have a soft spot in my heart for those struggling with the same issues that I have struggled with. Then along the way, I gained a passion for working with expecting mothers and giving them nutrition advice because I believe that if a baby has a strong foundation, this lowers their risk for chronic disease later in life. I think it’s important to educate mothers on the importance of proper nutrition, especially in this current day and age when chronic health issues are on the rise. What sets me apart from other health care providers is that when I am seeing a client who has persistent symptoms of disease or dysfunction, I focus on getting to the root cause of the ailments, instead of just suggesting that people take medication or supplements that only mask their symptoms. There are starting to be a lot more practitioners that are taking this approach, and that makes me very happy. I think we are on the cusp of a paradigm shift in understanding health and disease and I’m very proud of being on the forefront of that shift.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well-positioned for?
I think that there are certainly many positions that women are well suited for. I think that a woman could do any job a man can do, but oftentimes, women just aren’t drawn to those sorts of positions as much as men are. Although all women are different, I think that a lot of women possess the quality of compassion. This is one reason that I am in the field that I’m in. I have compassion for people suffering from chronic health issues and I want to help them overcome this struggle. I think the quality of compassion is also a reason why women really excel in positions involving social work, therapy, and teaching. I also think that a lot of women tend to be creative, and if they follow that creative drive they can be successful in something that they are truly passionate about. I know many women who inspire me that have started their own businesses in jewelry making, pottery, and designing and creating their own clothes.
