Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly McMorrow and Meriah Langsted.
Molly and Meriah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started with an idea. As a new mom, I found myself always wearing the same thing and looking for comfort but also wanting an element of style. So, I started cutting out fabric and sewing pockets on my favorite tops- and I noticed I got a lot of compliments, so I knew I was on to something.
Starting a new business is a TON of work which is how Meriah joined GHC Studio. Meriah and I have been friends for over a decade and we decided to partner on this new business venture together. We divide and conquer most of the daily tasks and ongoing projects. I would say that I work more on the production side of the business and Meriah is more of the operations and of the tech side of things. Collectively we come up with new ideas, new products, and how to make our company grow.
At GHC Studio (Gratitude. Happiness. Create), our goal is to create high-quality stylish apparel that not only inspires but also reminds you to show gratitude each day- all while giving back to local rescue organizations such as Maxfund a no-Kill Animal Shelter right here in Denver.
We created and operate GHC Studio out of Denver, CO. At GHC Studio, we design, laugh, work hard, and laugh some more- We LOVE what we do and hope it shows in each and every top we create.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, anyone who has started a new business knows it’s anything but easy. We have made our fair share of mistakes and I know we will continue to do so that is how you learn-right? Both Meriah and I are pretty particular about how we like things which is both good and bad. We tend to be picky which is something we are both working on and I am laughing to myself as I type this because I truly think things take so much longer for us because it’s all about the details so if something isn’t pretty close to perfect- we do it over!
One of our major struggles is both photography and social media. These two aspects of the business are extremely important but take copious amounts of time! When I look back on some of the photos from 1-2 years ago, we have improved, but we still have a long way to go. Social media will forever be a challenge but we took a few classes were recommend (Instagram with Intention) we learned a lot and since implementing some of what was learned our profile looks more professional and we continue to gain new followers. We have created a beautiful feed that represents our brand which has been a great marketing tool.
Our advice to anyone starting their journey is to be patient with the process and with yourself. Problems will always come up but take your time and work through them trust me you will always come up with the solution. Another piece of my favorite advice is to have FAITH in yourself if it was easy starting a business everyone would be doing it!
Please tell us about GHC Studio.
Our mantra is Be Grateful. Choose Happiness. Create a Life you Love. This is something we personally live by and is how GHC Studio came to be. These words not only inspire how we live our lives but also influence each business decision we make at GHC Studio. Whether you’re running errands, going to meet friends for drinks, adventuring outdoors, or wrangling your kids, our tops are perfect for any occasion and serve as a reminder to be Grateful, Choose Happiness, and Create a Life you Love.
At GHC Studio, we design tops with custom one-of-a-kind pockets. Each fabric swatch is selected, hand cut, and assembled by us. We have a variety of styles for Women, Men, Kids, Baby, and Dogs! We love coming up with new styles, finding unique fabric, and sharing what we love doing! Our goal is to grow our business nationwide so that it can become full-time work for both Meriah and me.
I remember a while ago, I saw something online that said when you purchase a product from a small business you are not only supporting their dream but they do a happy dance with every purchase… just so you know, we totally dance! We genuinely get so excited and motivated, it makes us feel even more empowered and excited to keep working on this business. I was driving down Tennyson street in my neighborhood not too long ago and I saw someone wearing one of our sweatshirts and it was the most amazing feeling I instantly called Meriah almost crying from pure joy! I would have to say that may have been my proudest moment thus far.
When asked what sets us aside from others is that we just do pockets! When we started the company, we agreed that instead of doing dozens of different designs, we will just do 2-3 really well and that would be our signature and what makes us stand out. We have the ability to be as creative as we want but have the overall consistency of in the design of the pocket.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
The most important piece of advice I have is to keep going. Some days will be harder than others but at the end of the day have faith in yourself and your ability to accomplish anything you put your mind to. Starting a business is crazy hard work but trust that the universe will give you exactly what you need at the perfect moment. Don’t think of the unknown is scary, think of it as exciting!
