Life and Work with Natalie Ramirez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Ramirez.

Natalie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was in the midst of the wedding planning process in late 2018 when I quickly discovered that all things beautiful in the wedding world came with a hefty price tag. The stunning details that personalized and enhanced a wedding were the extra costs I couldn’t stretch but I didn’t want to sacrifice my vision of my “dream wedding.” As a solution, I began playing around with design ideas for my wedding stationary. After customizing Save the Dates and a full wedding suite, I explored the endless options the paper industry had to offer. I experimented with several different paper styles and materials and landed on the product that helped bring my design and vision to life. I sent off my handmade Save the Dates and was shocked to hear the positive feedback from my friends and family. Not a single invitee had any idea that my wedding stationary was handmade by me and simply assumed I had them ordered.

In 2019, as my corporate career became more and more analytical, I started designing more Save the Dates and invitations as a creative relief. Quickly, opportunities to make stationary for friends, family and other Instagram brides became present. The combination of my passion for creativity and my solution for beautiful paper products for the budget-friendly bride created Prints and Posies.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The most intimidating part of this business creation process was simply getting started. It can be extremely overwhelming determining first steps, business plans, operating costs, resources and marketing strategies but taking it one step at a time has been the key for me. It can be discouraging when your products aren’t received as well as you’d hoped or your inbox isn’t filling up with requests overnight. Patience in the process has been a very necessary component and helps me stay motivated to continue. If I have advice for other women getting started in a new endeavor, it is to trust the process. If you are a hard-working individual with a valuable product, your peers and other people in your life will support what you are doing. Nothing speaks more volumes than positive feedback via word of mouth.

Please tell us about Prints and Posies.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I think the biggest barrier today in female leadership is lack of confidence. As cliche as it is, the only one who can truly hold you back is yourself. Truly, your family, friends and peers are all rooting for you to succeed and the only one who is doubting you is yourself. Having the confidence to start something new, be proud of your work without shame and be able to say that you are good at what you do can be a very challenging thing as a woman. It is okay to be proud of who you are and what you have built.
